My Auto-Rx will be arriving soon so a question.

This will be used in a mopar 3.3L V6 and 4 speed
auto trans, both with 191K miles.

The motor is using 1 qt./1200miles and the trans
reciently started leaking from the bell housing.

Currenty running ST 15w40 HDEO and a Motorcraft
FL300 filter.

I also have MC FL1 filters, which I intend to use
during the rinse phase.

Should I use the larger filter during the clean
phase as well, or doesn't it matter?

As far as the trans goes, if ARX helps the leak,
probably from the torque converter nose seal,

thats good, if not I'll have to pull it and replace the seal, which I would have had to do
anyway without the ARX.

I think you'll be very pleased with how your clean engine and clean transmission operate whether or not the oil consumption and leak are fixed. If the oil filter is the correct spec, use either one, but bigger might help.

Ya know, it's interesting, I've only owned the van
for a year. Had 182K miles on it when I bought it.

It runs really well. The 1200miles/qt. is not a real problem, the engine is really clean on the
inside, just a medium brown varnish inside the
valve cover, no sludge at all.

The ARX treatment for the engine is mostly to see
how the process works. If it helps the oil consumption, that's a plus.

The transmission has to be delt with though and soon.
The leak started about 4-5 months ago, and is getting worse, about a quart/month right now.

We'll see how it goes.

Wayne,
I think you'll be really please with the results. I was skeptical at first, but when I tested it in a sorely neglected 87 Nissan Sentra it made a significant difference. It will be interesting to follow your progress-make sure you post the results of how it goes.

Update #1 on the 94 Grand Caravan 3.3

Van has 193K miles on it now. Changed out the clean oil today at 1519 miles. Oil was quite dark, about what I would expect at 3K oci. The good news is, NO oil usage in 1500 miles. Note previously reported 1200/qt. oil usage. This is good news indeed.

Filled it with 5 qts. ST 15-40.

The Transmission leak seems to have stabilized so will wait until spring to add ARX to it.

67f here today. Forcast is for 71 tomorrow. Florida weather. I love it.

Life is good...

I assume that you mean that the dripping is becoming a problem, correct? Otherwise it doesn't add up with ...

Does it really matter where you pour the stuff in?

Ya, it does, one gets motor oil, the other gets ATF+3.

Guess I didn't make myself clear. That's normal for me.

Originally, the the engine was using ~1Qt./1200 miles, and the trans was leaving puddles of atf when parked over night. The trans is still leaving puddles, but they much smaller, and not enough of a leak to require any addational ATF to be added in 1500 miles. Not sure I understand this, it may be related to the fact that the van was being used to deliver pizza, and now is being used to commute to a white collar job, about 14 miles a day. (The kid finally got a good job, YEA!!).

Now, the ARX clean phase for the engine is over with 1500 miles. Based on past experiance, the engine should have used a quart of oil or more, but in fact didn't use enough oil in the 1500 mile clean phase to show on the dip stick. This is a big change for the better, and I really didn't expect it so soon.

I'm laid up right now, recovering from major back surgery so can't do any car work. It will be April before the doctor releases me and then I will have to be a lot more careful for the next few years.

Hope that cleared things up some.
