On the give-away side, we plan to give our oldest daughter the 2003 Corolla she's been driving and has taken to Seattle. Looks like she needs to register it out there. Her time as a student is coming to a close, IL tags are expiring, so it's time to sign the title to her and let her put her big girl pants on and register the car, buy insurance, etc.

Probably do the same with her OLDER brother who is driving oilBabe's former 2010 Altima. Looks like he will finish school in the next 9-15 months.

Time for him to move out and get some life experience other than living at home with mom and step-dad.

"Inherit" a beaten up 93 Escort LX from inlaws with CELL on all the time, worn struts, bad AC, way worn out plugs and disintegrated wires, etc.

Fixed all the cheap obvious stuff and cleaned the MAF, but left the bouncy struts and bad AC untouched, after "commuting" it 3 miles a day for a few months wife said we "need" a different 4 door car instead. So I "crushed" it for $1000 and gave the money back to the inlaws. It was a fun little car to drive around in when it was not hot or when it is not on the freeway, but we "need" a nicer car so it has to go.

My dad gave me his old car when I turned 16. I bought my parents a car ten years ago, and now my dad wants to give my son his 1987 antique. My employer just gave me a new Lincoln Continental, also meant for personal use.

My brother in law gave me his 99 Explorer because it wouldn't start and was in rough shape. He was going to junk it, but I offered to take it off his hands instead. I figured I could fix it up cheap and use it for a few years. After putting in a bunch of time and money into fixing it up, I drove a total of 30 miles or so before the intake gasket blew and puked coolant everywhere. That, along with a failing transmission and bad tires, made me realize it wasn't worth trying to fix anymore and I should junk it. But first, I'm parting it out to recoup the money I invested in it.
As far as giving away a car: I'll "give away" the shell of the Explorer when I'm done picking parts off it. I'll put up an ad in the "Free stuff" section of Craigslist and wait for a scrapper to get it.
