since honda is now recommending a 10000mile/1yr OCI, WITH DINO!!!, I have absolutely no fear of doing 1X/year oil changes with M1 or XD-3.
I'm still chicken though, I change the oil 2X a year, when I'm changing back and forth the snow tires and wheels.

Yes, I used to work quite a bit with UOA with electrical transformers and switchgear. I have absolutely total faith in the concept of oil analysis, and the ability of lubricants to 'last' for extended drains. Speaking of extended drains, many of the transformers were/are on their factory fills of oil 40, 50 years later, with filtering occurring once every 7 years or so, guided by a UOA program.

Of course, instead of looking for 'wear metals', we looked at statistics such as moisture, dielectric strength, and dissolved gases such as hydrogen, acetylene, as well as oil decomposition components.

Recently a lot of the transformers have been fitted with real-time instrumentation that can be read from a distance through a computer modem. The oil we used was called 'Voltesso', manufactured in Sarnia, and delivered oil tanker at a time directly to our jobsites.

When oil disposal, especially PCB-laden oil disposal is such a huge concern, the only choice is to keep the oil in service as long as possible. So a UOA, even at $500-$600 per sample, including labour and transportation, still remained a good investment.

Yeah, I bought the 0w30 with a viscosity of 12.1 cst. My fleet consists of 1.8l Vibes and 3.4l Montana's. Previous UOA's with Amsoil showed that these engines tend to thicken up the oil considerably over extended drains.

I agree

My Acura RSX is running a M1 filter & 5w30 oil. Im doing an oil analysis at 6 months and then at 1 year.

Once done with Mobil 1, I will try the same method with XD-3 OW30.

Im confident that the XD-3 will perform well!

Hello fellow members

Today I picked up 2 cases of the XD3 0w30 full synth for a grand total of $137.27 Canadian funds. thats 32 litres at a unit price of $3.73 per Litre Canadian. Have not seen the Esso synthetic line available here in my local walmart, but buying from the bulk dealer here in town seems to be cheaper anyhow. I have been running the dino for about 1 yr and will all the hype lately it was time for me to try the synthetic for the upcoming winter. I know lots who have run this oil for years with nothing but positive things to say about it so lets collectively pool our opinions and reviews on this one. If its half decent its a real steal at the current price.

You'll love synthetic in the winter. Much easier starting and the oil pressure comes up faster for less startup noise.

I'm currently running the 0w30 in one of my fleet vehicles and should have a UOA in 6 weeks or so.

Great site guys.

Jarek,

I don't believe he purchased it from the Noco Depot as I was there yesterday and picked up the last 2 cases of OW30 (4 X 4L liter boxes).

I am going to try it out for the winter months. By then I should have an UOA or two.

That is great news, Im curious to see a VOA of this stuff as Im sure others are awaiting with bated breath

I think we may have a solid cost vs performace oil on our hands here!! Since GC has snatched up the Elixer of Life title etc, I want to be first to dub this oil the GWNO. (Great White North Oil)

LOL maybe im getting ahead of myself, anyhow I'm sure I speak for many other members when I say thanks for taking one for the team and having a VOA done.

I'm using it in one of my cars right now and it'll eventually find it's way into all of them(7 total). Nothing good/bad to report so far(~2000km). I'll have a UOA/VOA in mid-late November.
