If so, does the latest spec (SP) still clean as well?
I’ve read a bunch of claims here stating it cleans out sludge and even varnish.
Any experience?

A few previous threads to get you started that are specific to that grade. There are many more. Also many more threads on Mobil 1 in general.

Cleaning is directly related to base stock composition. If you have an actual, verified problem with a dirty engine then you are better off using a product that is designed to clean. What is your actual issue?

Lol…read post #31: “This is what mobil 1 0w40 cleaned in 1 year and one OCI…
with no before an after pictures what are we supposed to draw form the picture.
I was referring to his previous comment.
Common sense tells it depends on the amount and type of deposits, I cant see it cleaning a sludge monster in one go but I can tell you the 5w30 ESP cleaned up minor deposits and varnish under the valve cover in one OCI that lasted a year and 5K.
I think I'll stop now this falls under my "dont feed the trolls" policy.

Any oil that has additives, ESPECIALLY oil that has THOSE approvals, is cleaning.
I see these are the current approvals, which one of these are you referring to specifically?

MB-Approval 229.3
MB-Approval 229.5
VW 502 00
VW 505 00
NISSAN Genuine Performances
Porsche A40
