Defence spending in Canada coming closer to 2% of GDP

Yes. To stop Russia from taking Alaska back.

BTW, most of our USA built M777s (3 axes) are lent out. Time to order 30 more at $1M each.
Look who has established multiple colonies in your own Province- hint, it is not Russia, but an adversary that incessantly thirsts night and day for Canadian natural resources. If Russia was a threat to taking Alaska, the U.S. would have built a naval base in Alaska decades ago. The U.S. does not have a naval base in Alaska, but if the US establishes a naval base in Alaska, it won't be because of Russia.

The Japanese had a foothold in Alaska during WWII.

Annual US military budget $850 B
Annual US budget deficit $1.2 T

You can’t afford a military.
Common defense of the nation is one of the very few things demanded of the federal government by the constitution. The federal government takes in 4.8T in tax revenue. So its the other 3.6T plus the deficit that is being wasted on non-required stuff.

Blame our open western border policy that is allowing Pilipinos to take over Tim Hortons.

maybe we all get lucky and no wars at all happen...I can imagine most is in cyberspace but let's hope/pray for a better outcome. it does look grim but try and find something good going on in the world.

I have an idea for a movie. It starts with an Inuit hunter walking through a snow storm over the ice offshore in the Arctic Ocean. He has Ranger rifle strapped to his shoulder because he’s a member of the Canadian Rangers. He can barely see anything in the storm. Suddenly he sees something dark ahead of him. The squall clears for a minute. Looming high in the sky is the coning tower of a Russian submarine. Pan to the NORAD situation room in Colarado.

The Russians bring Icebreakers and start unloading materials for a mobile base with air support. The claim they are on a scientific research mission and they had technical problems and have to sit out the winter. You can imagine the rest. ;)

Does Canada really need a military with USA connected to it ?
That's why the US spends so much on the military. No one else needs a military as long as the US will defend them. That's why all these other countries can afford there socialized medicine etc. A lot of money to go around when you don't have to spend it on your own defense.

Which is why Canada is trying to meet its NATO commitment of 2% GDP, finally. Anyway, just wanted to update my American friends. We have fought together for 90 years as of this year as a matter of fact, starting with WWI.

A better way to say it is we can not continue this insane debit going away free stuff to bribe voters.
With that said, we cant afford to defend other countries, let them pull their own weight, problem solved mostly.

BTW, Canada or any other free country cant afford a military either.
Canada Military Budget 36 Billion
Canada Budget Deficit 40 Billion

The key is, the USA has to let countries carry their own weight.

Which is the point of this post. There supposed to spend 2% of GDP to be in NATO. So there trying to get there. 2% is too little on a good day. They have underspent for 3 decades, so it should be 5% of GDP for the foreseeable future - to catch up. USA is 4.8% of GDP at current rates, and we haven't underspent since maybe the early 90's. So NATO should really be 5% of GDP IMHO. After your caught up.

The "be involved elsewhere" gets complicated. The point of NATO is everyone has everyone's back. So if were going to keep NATO then those countries that haven't spent need to catch up quickly, and if they don't want to they need to be kicked out.
