Dash Cam Long Term Use

How do you use 2 cams in the front?
One is hardwired to the fusebox and is mounted almost in front of the rear view mirror. The second one is on a swivel suction cup mount (so I can spin it around in case I need to) and that one is plugged into a USB power plug. It's also easily removeable in case I need it for a rental car when I travel. Both are Viofo A119 V3 cams.

Escort has a dash cam I intend on getting to go alongside my Max 360 radar detector, it mounts right to the side of it. And if I remember correctly, I can move a fuse to enable the 12v socket to be permanently on, radar will go to sleep on its own but leave the dash cam enabled.

I have one that is in the mirror, and also has a backup camera.
It's pretty much on, the second I start the car. The last one lasted 4 years, before it stopped recording, but I got it for 30 bucks, so I just got me an oher one.

I use it every single drive. If I am going out and leaving the car on a public street or parking lot, I keep it running by using a USB 20000 mAH battery pack that will keep my dash cam running for 24hrs. I thought it was a silly extravagance, until it caught someone dinging my door. I was able to make them pay with the video and audio evidence. Well worth the $150 I think I paid for it.
What type of cam and battery pack do you use? Glad to hear it paid off.

I've had mine about three years. It's a cheap one I bought at walmart. This thread reminds me to check the SD card to see if it's even doing anything! It's kind of cumbersome to use.

For the battery pack I have two of these https://www.amazon.com/Anker-PowerCore-Technology-High-Capacity-Compatible/dp/B07S829LBX

That appears to be a newer style/revision but I use Anker and just charge one and use the other and swap as needed.

As for the dashcam I use a https://www.amazon.ca/Goluk-Recorder-Include-G-Sensor-Recording/dp/B08DP4D6TV

That's a Canadian link as I couldn't find it in stock on USA Amazon. I find it small easy to use, the app on the phone works well enough once you get over its kinks. Like the wireless button you mount to push if you want to record something non vibration triggering. I am sure there are WAYYYYYYY better dash cams. But the price and style suite my just fine.

I bought one with a capacitor power supply in it .. plugs up to a 12V outlet and it's been in my daily driver since 2015 .
$80 on Amazon

I got a similar one in 2017. The capacitor has apparently gone out, I have to do the setup screen everytime I start the truck.
I do set it up when I drive, but know my kids don't. Need to get another one.
I have one in both my kids vehicles, have one in the garage for the wifes car for over a year, just have not gotten around to putting it in.

They all stay in the vehicle 24/7, but only run when vehicle is on, no parking monitoring.

Only 1 car of mine shuts down the cigarette lighter when the car is off. In that one, the dash cam is there and I never touch it. It's supposed to be recording evidence for when it's needed. The other cars, the dash cam sits in the glove box because I forget to hook them up.

I also have a Mobius camera (great cameras) that I mount to my hat for RC flying. Very helpful to find the crash site lol. Sometimes I take it while the wife is driving and hold it in my hand and record interesting stuff ahead, beside, or behind us. It is self contained and runs 45 minutes on its battery. Can just set it on the dash if I'm going from 1 store to the next and don't want to mount the Garmin. They have a capacitor and cable kit for it too. I use a Stealth2 helmet mount when on my Valkyrie, but it'll work anywhere as well.
Here's my rc gas 4x4 filmed with the Mobius.

"I tested 10 flagship dashcams for clarity, plate reading ability, and field of view both during the day and at night, and then compared them to a brand new GoPro Hero11 Black."

I've been using a Walmart cheapie since 2018. It starts when the car starts. Recently the suction mount gave out and I brought it inside the house to see what I could do. I plugged it into a usb power pack and made a few recordings around the house and noticed the playback was sometimes jittery. I'm guessing 5 years of overwriting has taken its toll on the memory card it came with.

I had/have Viofo A119’s. Had one in my car for several years, bought one for her car. Hers crapped out after a few years, I put mine in her car and I bought a Rexing V1 to try out. It does the same thing.

The Rexing one has WiFi so I can look at the stored videos on my phone. I have mine hard wired into fuse box. Hers I have an OBD power cable that plugs into the obd port. Both are set if something hits car it will start recorsing.

For under $100 it’s a no brainer to have. If you have video proof, it’s not your word against mine
