Color of oil

Rumor has it that oil inside CNG engines stay clean and new looking practically forever. Something about next to no combustion byproducts from CNG.

Back in the day , many farmers concerted their pick up trucks to propane / butane . Always heard it ran a lot cleaner than gasoline .

Ages ago , I read ( Popular Science or Popular Mechanics ) about a waste water processing plant that used methane gas ( produced by the processing of waste ) to wun large internal combustion engines . I think these engines drove pumps involved in the processing . They said the burn was so clean they had never changed oil in the engines .

Take that for what it may or may not be worth . Plus , my ageing memories .

Best of luck to you all , :)

If you find oil color interesting, consider smell and feel too.
Rub a drop between the fingers.
If it doesn't feel slippery, or even a little gritty, it's time to go.
My brother once had a beater van that wouldn't crank when hot.
Before replacing the starter I gave the oil the feel-test.
It was thin and not slippery. Brother didn't know when it was last changed.
An oil change fixed the hot-start problem.

I couldn’t agree with you more. Don’t ignore your excellent God-given senses.

I can be worth listening to your oil, too.
Just when I walk in the garage and all those jugs of used oil say,
"You forgot to take us to the dump to be recycled again, didn't you? 25th week in a row!"

This has been something i always have looked at.Chevron came out really clean and almost clear.Hard to see on the dipstick. my dad had a Subaru SVX with the flat six and after many months it would still look new.He could change his oil and put the old oil in the jug and you couldn't tell it had 8000 miles on it.Mobile Synthetic. His Prius was almost this good also. I cant say this for my car and truck.oil always gets dirtier as time and miles go by.
