Yeah, I posted and then noticed it still had the magazine. I have changed the post now.

To me, that means drop the mag, rack the slide/eject live round, check the chamber.

I carry with one in the chamber, safety on.
I practice drawing and taking the safety off while drawing.

I've had a loaded gun handed to me before.

I treat them all the same way ayway, so I don't flip out.

Calling someone a retard without knowing for sure what the statement meant is NOT cool, however.

They have CCW permits from the state in which they reside and have not had training? How does that work or am I misunderstanding?

Point taken. That was a little harsh on my part. Loaded guns should never be passed around.

If the above is correct, then you need to go back for some serious retraining. NEVER (as in the rest of eternity) do you hand a loaded gun to someone else so they can examine it. Pardon my French, but you weren't "made out out to look like a retard", you are one. At this stage of the game, you have no business having a CCW. I have no problem with carrying one in the chamber, but never would I hand the gun over to another person without first removing the clip and clearing the chamber. This is just crazy!
If you had read a later post I safety checked the weapon and THEN handed it over. Just as if you were looking at it at the gun shop. But I do agree with you. So if everyone can stop arguing the safety check of the debate? I removed the magazine racked the slide removing the round and locked the slide to hand it over so he knows 100% it was safe.

It's their house, their rules. If they don't want you handing a weapon around with a chambered cartridge don't bring it in. Have some respect when you're a visitor in someone else's home. If there is a right or wrong on this (and there isn't, it's a philosophical argument) you're automatically wrong because you don't pay for the roof you're under.
The fact that they didnt want one in the chamber under their room is fine with me, understandable they have a 1 year old child living their. But they truely meant as a whole carrying one in the chamber. This extends from inside their home to where ever I may go is illogical to carry a loaded firearm at any given time. So if Im making a large ATM withdrawl at 3am in a bad neighborhood which I do often enough to bring up the idea and I am in a situation I might as well hand him the money and get stabbed.

I cant imagine ever carrying a semi auto handgun that is not chambered. I wonder what the inlaws would say about carrying a 1911 cocked and locked.

Who are you talking to?

Did you carry one in the chamber as an MP? As a CCW holder I sure do now but as an MP in the 1960s we had M1911s and were not to chamber a round until we intended to fire the pistol.

"cocked and locked" was not allowed. ADs were a problem with handguns in the Army...some guys would send a round across the PX when they were trying to "clear" their pistol at the door, not good!

i guess youre in laws cary there revolvers with out rounds in the cylinder not much diferent than having one in the chamber of a simi automatic the key is too always keep youre finger of the triger

I don't carry but but my HD Glock 21 is always condition 3.

Respect your in laws wishes in there house. Just think, someday you may have a daughter that brings home a guy just like you!

SWMBO and I both carry Glock's.
We always have one in the chamber.....ALWAYS!

Trouble is, folks see TV shows with people "cocking" their auto's before doing battle. That is just for effect/show and is, IMHO, stupidly unecessary.
Hmmm! I wonder what folks with wheel guns do

!

Unless your wife carries, YOU are defending her. YOU do what is right. BE PREPARED!

I asked her how fast she really thinks she can pull out the pistol from her purse and rack the slide in a panic. Guess what? Your dead before you even finished unzipping your purse.

Then she should carry it in a holster.

I like when they do it 3 or 4 times before actually firing the gun.

I carry my 1911 cocked and locked. If not what's the point? Am I going to hit them with it?
