I started using a walking cane a couple years ago for added support due to a weak knee. It's just a regular aluminum shaft with rubber tip model that you see in most drug stores. Anyway, last week I bought one of these Hurrycane things

since I found the concept intriguing. I just got, and it is kind of interesting. I was wondering if anyone else here has tried this thing, and whether it works well and lasts awhile without problems?

How old are you? No hope for the knee? Most MD's say don't become dependent on a cane. That cane looks like it would work OK for the really unstable walker. I wonder about longevity of the joint, and the weight of the tip.

Not being harsh - just trying to get to the root cause. Please don't take this post in the wrong way. If you are oversensitive, please don't respond. I am not a medical professional nor an M.D. I am not giving out nor does it appear you are seeking medical advice.

Pablo, I've got arthritis and a bad tendon or ligament. The knee will just buckle unexpectedly at times, and I have to have the cane to catch myself from falling down. I hear what you're saying about getting dependent on it, but believe me that's the last thing I would want.

I don't know--this kinda seems like a solution in search of a problem that doesn't exist. A standard cane provides plenty of support, despite the small contact point.

I was on a cane for about 3 months after breaking my hip, and a standard cane worked perfectly. Do you notice any additional support with this thing versus the older cane you were using?

One thing I will say, which may not be applicable to your situation, is that I found a wooden cane to be more comfortable. It seemed like the aluminum cane was transmitting vibration or something--however, I was also in an extreme amount of pain at the time...

Yeah, if I put it out in front of me the new one grabs the surface more firmly. The only problem I've had with the old one is on wet, hard floors. If you don't have it pretty much perpendicular to the floor, it can easily slip. I think I'll keep this thing just as a backup, whether it is really much better than the old one or not.
