Buying some new combination wrenches soon

NOS Armstrong would be the way to go.

SK makes their wrenches square with sharp corners and Wright does everything right except for the length.

I have long pattern SK wrenches. I would not get them unless they have better metal in them now. I have spread the open ends on 3 out of 9 wrenches. Wrights and USA Williams look like good wrenches

Wright Tool WrightGrip for me, I have both satin and full polished versions.

Last fall I got to tour the factory and they let me take photos.

Do tell! Is this anything amazon prime on the amazon de site? Does something I put in a cart at amazon de transfer over to my US cart? Do I need a separate account with Amazon.de?

You have to create an Amazon.de account. I've done this before with their Japanese site.

So does Snap On but SK is thicker beam so more comfortable.

15/16 Snap on left and 22mm SK on right (almost the same size). If you like the longer Snap On length get the SK Long Pattern.

Depends on your hands. Wright is the most comfortable in my hand and has as much heft and solidity as Germans with 'better' open end. I use them most of the time. I have satin and black, but only in the sizes I need. I am not a professional, but I used to work quite a bit when I had a fleet... I still take care of more than I would like to in my extended family. I also love my double box long Hazet wrenches.

Wrightgrip vs SnapOn flank drive. Wrightgrip with 8 degree offset, and SnapOn with 15 degree offset. Which offset do you prefer and why?

Shipping is usually reasonable though. I've bought several Hazet and Knipex items through Amazon.de.

When you see the Amazon.de price, the VAT is included. So the price someone in the USA pays is cheaper.

Correct the price you see will be minus 19% plus shipping. Amazon prime doesn't work but you don't need a separate account.
Not everything ships to the USA eg the small Hazet impact I bought last year does not so I brought it back with me but the larger 1/2" impact does. The wrenches I linked to will.

Thanks trav and drtyler! Ill be trying this out soon... Very excited! Will be interested to see what else aid can get. I assume it all needs to be sold by amazon, not by a sub vendor?

Make sure to check Stahlwille tools out they are a step up from Hazet for most things.
These are nice and will ship to the US.

These for example will not. It appears that only products sold by Amazon ship not other vendors.
I do have a Amazon.de account also and have some tools waiting to come back with me that wouldn't ship to US. If you need any help let me know by PM.

That's the style wrench I need for my toolbox. I have exactly one like that style of wrench. I bought it from a Mac tool truck back in the 90's I think it was. Works perfect for brake bleeder screws.

For bleeder screws you want these 6pt.

Amazon.de usually (but not always) indicates clearly what can and what cannot be shipped to US:

Dieser Artikel kann in die Vereinigten Staaten geliefert werden - this item can be delivered to the United States

negative is usually in red:

Dieser Verkäufer liefert den von Ihnen gewählten Artikel nicht in die Vereinigten Staaten

Thank you very much, Trav.

Also, Aachen can be used:

Not trying to be a ball buster but what standard, ISO, DIN, etc? Under the hood I prefer a thinner head and a slightly shorter (not stubby) pattern than say for suspension work where a long pattern can really help.
The Hazets are a soft I beam style keeping the tool thin while providing a comfortable grip. The Snap-On are fine tools but certainly not the be all and end all.

Carl Walter is a tad shorter, significantly thinner and yes, I love them under the hood. And the wrenches have the phosphatised coating. Classic and classy minimalist design for folks who dislike the shiny gypsy tools

Their catalogues are stylish, created with reserve and irony in visual department. Serious Germans, who could crack a deadpan joke about themselves...
Not to be confused with Karl Walther Sportwaffen or Karl Walther the late impressionist artist.

I have had some their tools for years, the red handle screwdrivers are one of my favorites and have held up as long as I can remember. I also like the phosphate finish on their wrenches, not very expensive, IIRC i paid less than DM20 for a small set back in the late 80's.

The only brand I had heard of before I started searching was Armstrong.
Any suggestions? Any clear winners out of those four? I had also looked at Britool and Wiha as other options, but they were a little out of my budget of $200 for a 15 piece set.

For only $42, Tekton has a 15pc set. Flange drive on the box end, but not on the open end. Made in Taiwan. The 15 deg angle on the box end may not appeal to everyone.

Looks like a good set for the DIYer?
