Yeah you read that right. I pulled my Dodge V6 with the leaky transmission out of storage. I don't expect it to last much longer, so I've decided to do ONE last oil change and then just run it til the car stops moving.

I don't want to continue sinking money into a dying vehicle. (I'm not replacing the $1000 timing belt & water pump either.) Anyway I'm leaning towards Mobil Delvac 1 (5w-40). Mobil advertises it as a longfill oil.

Does it consume? If so, are you planning on keeping it topped off?

If I had a beater I didn't care one little bit about I'd keeping topping it off with the cheapest SL/SM/SN-rated oil I could find, and maybe change out the filter every year.

Sounds like a good idea. In the UOA section, someone used Delvac 1 in an older Dodge or Chrysler van, and it wasn't too bad after 25,000 miles.

No. I run the dodge 10,000 miles and never add any oil to its Mitsubishi engine. Perhaps if I ran it 20,000 miles it might need a topoff, but I've never gone that long.

Don't put any oil in it just see how far it will go...

I think Matt supplied the best answer-why spend the extra bucks on Delvac?
SuperTech would do very nicely-as shown in D Newton's UOA on his vehicle

My brother had a Duster that was on its way out. Little by little he started to fill it with garbage including a toilet. When it was barely running he drove it to the town dump and walked home.

Why don't you make it sort of fun and solicit used oil from people you know? The blacker, the thicker, the more contaminated, the better! I'm sure you could tell some stories, and perhaps you could be quite surprised with the outcome.

I think realistically any oil will get you between 15 and 20,000 miles if you keep it topped up. I wouldn't buy the most expensive thing, why not let fate decide (clearance aisle).

Or, what about MaxLife NextGen which is 3 bucks a quart and AAP with a 10 dollar rebate... five dollar 46 cent oil change.

I say you buy some of those microGreen filters since they are supposed to extend the life of the oil for up to 30,000 miles. Your car could be the BITOG guinea pig to see if the claims are true.

5 quarts of Lucas!

Just buy the cheapest 15W40 HDEO you can find on sale and change it once a year. Seriously it's not going to cost much to throw some dino in there once a year.
