I just used Amsoil Severe Gear 80W90 GL-5 gear oil in the rear differential of my 2020 Toyota Highlander XLE AWD since that's what my 2013 Highlander called for and I had an extra bottle (squeeze bag?) laying around. 2020 Owners Manual calls for Toyota 75W85 LX Gear Oil.

Am I OK to leave until next diff oil change or should I change oil to recommended 75W85 or more readily available 75W90?

My guess is your Highlander will never know the difference. FYI, I use Red Line 75w85 in our 2013 GS350.
I just changed transfer case on my 2013 Highlander and used Lucas Oil Synthetic 75W-90 but plan on using Red Line 75W-85 in the transfer case of my 2020 Highlander shortly.

For decades Toyota speced 80w90 in rear differentials. It's only in recent years where they're trying to squeeze every fraction of MPG for CAFE reasons, that they have speced lighter viscosities.

80w90 will be absolutely fine. But you might, possibly, get fractionally lower MPG.

I use 75W-110 in rear diff of my 2019 Tacoma

75W-90 in the front

MTF in the transfer case

75W-90 MTG in the 6 speed MT

Will be 5 years soon. Nothing sploded
Borrowed time? I know I am overdue for a Model 3 cataclysmic explosion, but what's a poor boy to do?

What were the original grade spec for all of those? Do you drive in cold climates?

I'm on the same boat as OP, where my original spec (for my PTU) calls for 75w85 but looking for alternatives.

It can get cold here. It was near 0°F a couple times this winter. General cool and warm summer

Diffs: 75W-85 Both front and rear
TC: Specialized ultra thin Toyota TC lube
MT: 75W-90 GL4 (well I got that one right)

Did your rear diff have a clutch (packs)?

I’m running Valvoline 75W-90 in the front and rear diffs on a Lexus GX460. It won’t know the difference. There was no warning on the diff pumpkins to use LSD oil. For the t-case, there’s Red Line MTL-LV. No issues so far.
