Additives your car doesn't need

Came across this article on car additives. I remember the infomercial on Prolong. I think they also had one where the valve covers were off an engine and they were spraying water on it as it ran.

The writer proved that he is not that current into automotive science when he recommended OCI's of 3k miles. His section against fuel system cleaners had nothing to back it up, and I find it odd that PEA has such devotees and yet according to this article it is just wishful thinking.

The other portions may be correct, but how to tell when I disagree with his stance on these other issues?
