The only ads I find ineffective are the Buick ones where they practically note & apologize to young people for their cars being associated with old people and not stylish.

Self-deprecating ads might be appreciated by some for being candid and honest, yet doesn't seem to make the product desirable to buy.

Many of us are comfortable in our dorkdom.

Half the population has less than average intelligence...they buy cars, too.
 
GM used to have some good advertising, but that was decades ago.
The Chevy ads can be viewed on different levels.
People are often imbeciles, and that segment of the population probably takes these ads seriously.
OTOH, many view these ads as parody, which might still make them effective in that they make you think of the brand and you know that the vehicles aren't as awful as these lame ads.
Funny ads can be very effective and these Chevy spots can be taken either way.
It's not as though any sane owner would allow a scoop full of rock to be dumped into the bed of his half-ton from a height of a few feet.
