So I just bought this car. Its a 94 Camaro z28 with 6 speed. The previous owner says it was rebuilt by a machine shop about 10k miles ago. Not really sure what to think right now because I have no idea what kind of farewell the car was given, and also this is the oil that went through all the test drives and stuff.

I put rotella 5w40 in with 1 quart 15w40 chevron, because thats what I had. It gets much better oil pressure now. Im just reading off the factory gauge but it seemed a little low, like 40-50s max, not its more like mid 60s.

The engine runs great, sounds fine, and just easily passed MA emissions on the dyno with a mild cam and high flow cat.

What do you guys think? Should I be worried?

I should have included that it came with a moroso cai. I think Im going to get a prefilter for it for normal driving. Any recommendations for a prefilter?

16 yr old cars need to pass a emission test in MA? How old does a car need to be not to have take a emission test in MA?

In Ontario, Canada, anything 1988 and newer will ALWAYS need to pass an emissions test :D My '89 Town Car just had it's in April.

Something is very wrong. The additive levels are way too low for this oil mix. This oil mix is quite thick and shear stable and this engine can not mechanically shear it down to 9.05 cSt. Manganese is very high which typically comes from fuel. Flashpoint is high, so those two things are in disagreement. All wear is high for the mileage. Silicon is very high.

I don't know what else to say but that maybe there is some kind of mistake.

See what shows up on the next uoa.

I agree.

Why is the oil so thin so early? Fuel?

Im thinking yes. I have a feeling its running rich especially at certain times. I gotta get a bung welded in so I can throw my wideband on it. Hopefully its nothing more than that :)

Yes but its looking like they are going to get rid of the dyno test for $$ reasons. This might have been the last time this car has to pass emmisions. 96+ (obdII) cars will just get scanned Im hearing.

Sorry if I wasnt clear, the rotella mix is what I have in there now. Im not sure what the oil was that I drained for this UOA you are looking at. Not sure about the mileage either. I think the next uoa will hopefully clear some things up.

I've got a supposedly stock LT1 in the 95 Corvette-and it really pulls hard, accelerates with the same G force at any RPM. How do you like your horses

Thats cool, my z28 has your rims on it I think. I came from the turbo subaru camp and this is way more fun. i paid less for my whole camaro than I did just on mods for my subaru. i love the m6. i know what you mean about the broad power band, its tough to get caught off gaurd. The MPGs are only slightly worse than in my wrx.

Unfortunately this motor has a problem. 1st I heard a tick and I used the stethoscope to locate it, which was hard. It really sounded top end but not all the way up. So then one day I started it and the top end was making a mess of noise clicking clattering etc. Spun cam bearing(s) maybe?

if you know who built it i'd ask if you could try Redline 10W-30 or PP 10W-30 and add a little Redline break in additive, Lucas break in, or Schaeffers 132. i'd also run an Amsoil air filter

it prob has a pcm tune but i recommend bryan at pcmforless.com if you send him a TTdatamaster log and your bin file, he can check it out and improve

the ticks or noises are problematic also, i don't have any suggestions except to pull the valve covers and retorque
