Just curious if anyone has a newer Sentra with the 1.8L. Son and DIL just had their paid for car totaled in a rear end accident. They are scrambling to replace ASAP for work transportation. Local dealer is clearing out the remaining 2016 models for $14800 - $15800. They don't have time, or the money, for much better right now. Respectfully, not interested in opinions of other makes or models, due to time constraints. Are their any major issues with this car? Thanks in advance.

Not to argue with you..but why dont they find a cheap car rental for a week or two while considering other models too...i personally dont think that rushing into dropping 15k on a car is a good idea unless they know its what they are sure they want. I mention this because I have friends who have done that only to regret it.

Step-daughter has a 2013 Sentra that was bought new with same engine. It now has 23K miles on it. Reliable car so far. Engine has no pep though and is noisy.

I loved the old sentras. New ones im not so sure. Can it be had with an MT? A co worker has had nothing but issues with his Nissan CVT.

I was researching the Sentra last month and reviews from multiple sources rank it as the worst or one of the worst compart cars on the market.

Thanks for the responses. Just as I was hoping. Time constraints left no time to search for a vehicle like I would have. Mentioned Sentras because they were close and on closeout. I know nothing about them. We do love out Frontier though. Had I been in the same boat, I would have rented a car while searching. But they chose not to.

I'll be passing this info back to them ASAP. Exactly why I asked on this forum. Thanks to you all. Happy New Year

How do you find a gently used vehicle and know for sure it was used gently?? When we were kids my friends grandmother had a beautiful Plymouth fury with a 383 it had under 20,000 babied miles from an old lady but her grandson (my friend) used to take the car out at night when she was sleeping and race it on this stretch in ny called connecting highway...Everyone raced there everything from a stock 6 cyl duster to corvettes...Station wagons tow trucks everything.. We did pretty good there..LOL
That car held up pretty good though.

Please let us know if or when we can recommend an alternative. But within the boundaries of your request, I echo the sentiment here- would suggest all efforts to not have them end up with a Sentra. Have experience with a friend/family's ~2015 and I feel like it is total junk.

Interest rates are lower when financing new versus used. Assuming OP's son is financing

We shopped for a third auto in May 2016. Wanted a new Honda because they've done us well since 1981. Civic was $17,500 and Accord was $20,000. Bought the Accord. Great car.

I have a 2007 Nissan Titan (first auto for discussion sake). Been a great vehicle. However, it seems both the Sentra and Altima are known for problems hence me avoiding Nissan when it came to a third auto.

Our second auto is a 2010 Civic owned since new. Just turned over 100K miles. No problems.

we bought a new sentra in 2014. no significant difference between that and 2016 other than styling and options. good value (we paid 15 for one that stickered for 21) alot of space inside. nice styling. nice features. fairly quiet, the SR handles really well. dislikes? the CVT. in 33k miles the only problem has been the CVT, which started shuddering and was fixed with a software update. Sentras historically have been fairly reliable and durable; I'm guess that the CVT will ruin that track record.

I don't have direct experience with the 2016 Sentra, but loved our 1993 and thought our 2001 was OK. I don't have faith in most "rating" sources, so you really have to check around on that.

At the end of the day, if it's a car they like from a source they don't mind using, go for it. I personally don't see how the Sentra can be so much worse than others in this price point.

I have a 15 and I haven't had any issues apart from a flat tire in the seven months that I've owned it. I'd prefer that it had a larger gas tank and a bit more pep, but it will work as from point A to point B transportation just fine.

Just to update and thank everyone who offered some advice/info. They were able to find a 2016 Toyota Corolla S Plus from a local dealer with 11k on the odometer that looked brand new and test drove to their satisfaction. They never made it to a Nissan dealer.

Sierra048,

I think it's always nice to see updates from the original poster about the final outcome of a situation. All too often on various forums, I've seen responders make the effort to supply information, help or whatever was requested and the OP doesn't have the courtesy to give an update like you did. Way to go! Class act!

Glad to see everything work out for your son and DIL. (I like the Corolla better BTW.)

Thanks for the kind words. I just think it's common courtesy to thank those who take the time to respond, especially when I'm the one asking for help. And I too like to find out the outcomes of posts asking for help with solving problems.
