Toddler Car Seat Debate: when to turn forward-facing?

As we only have car seats that allow for a thin blanket or towel, now I'm curious what obstruction these causes for some seats? I get if it s a thick(er) pad and the pad shifts but something pretty thin?


Found the above list interesting, no idea how up to date/accurate it is.
 
I brought this older thread back, simply to share the picture below from our recent visit to the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn.

We turned Ellie around at 2. She wouldn't stop screaming with it facing backwards. I couldn't take the constant ear piercing screaming any longer.

She hasn't screamed since we turned her seat around and she can sit like the rest of us.
 
Very interesting! Would this be 60's to 70's vintage?
Yes. A Google search indicates that child seat safety laws started to really get going by 1979 and most states adopted early laws by the about 1986.
