10th HS Reunion

Our reunions are two-day affairs. It was an all-boys school. The guys got together Friday night at school for an informal beer party. Saturday night was suit-and-tie at a posh place with the spouses.

If in doubt, wear a sport coat and tie. Ovedressed won't make you feel as uncomfortable as underdressed.

Thankfully I've never received an invitation to a highschool reunion. The people I hung out with wouldn't show up either, and I wouldn't want to hang out with the people that would show up!

I went to a high school with an International Baccalaureate program - the people that would show up to a reunion are all likely Ivy League grads. If they were as pompass is they were back then, I'd probably end up leaving the reunion in the back of a cop car.

I went to my 10 yr reunion and recall the females looking better than when I had seen them 10yrs previous. And I probably did wear a Hawaiian shirt.

JHZR2, getting back to your question: I think a suit may be a little over the top for a HS reunion and may make you look like you're trying to hard.

Nice jeans, a colorful (not to be confused with loud or gawdy) shirt and a dark sports coat will be as dressy as you'd want to get. Get a hair-cut about 5 days before, get your teeth whitened and get a mani. That will make it obvious that you care about your appearance, without looking over-done.

I'm thinking of renting one of these for my 20th next year, not sure on which color, kinda feelin the orange one though...

I haven't been to any of mine, thinking about going to my 35th in 2011. Maybe the sport coat and hawaiian shirt.... The guys I hung out with in HS probably haven't gone to any.

Say you are unemployed because it doesn't matter how sucessful you are "unless you are trying to pick up on some classmate". You would have kept in touch with the ones that matter.

"Get a mani"?! What will be obvious it that he's a sissy.

Back to the point JHZR2, dress anyway you want to. Why do you even care what anyone thinks, especially if they base it on your clothing or what you drive, or for that matter, "how far you've come"? Is this how you define yourself, and how you want others to define you?

Well, I think JRH20 should go hang with his girlfriends and have them give him good advice regarding dressing, hairstyling, makeup, manicures, how to make small talk, manners etc.

Whatever you drive, be sure it's clean.

I'd dress appropriate for the occasion. Ours was an informal outdoor gathering so it was nice jeans and a shirt. Good watch (no Rolex) and cologne. Nice shoes.

Brought the wife and pics of the kids, but didn't bring the kids. Fat chick in school looked like a ten grand a night stripper.

Went back for the twentieth, pretty much same story. A few less people. A couple had died. Some with less hair, more lbs. The stripper looked like she did in high school.

Never got the invite for the thirtieth.

After reading the posts, I want to add that at my 25th, it was a disgrace how some of the guys dressed.

Oh, quite a long time ago I was working on my friend's 911 with him and he mentioned he was going to a reunion and was going to detail the car. I said, ok, detail it, but drive it thru a big mud puddle afterwards.

I forgot to add that I really dressed business casual, tie/no jacket, as most other people were.

also, typical of my class of slackers, nobody thought to have a reunion on during the 10th year, so mine was an 11th year reunion.

my wife's class reunion, much smaller, about 20 people, was in a bar/beer garden on the Hudson, jeans and collared shirt.

Some not to bad looking girl was hitting on me the whole time at my 20th...seeing how I was with SWMBO it seemed kinda pointless, but dang, for the life of me I had no idea she was in my class. (later checked the old annual, yep sho nuff. a real barker)

Mullet is an excellent selection for the 40th in 8 years.
