Why conventional oil for break in?

I keep reading on break in topics ... "I'm going to use XYZ conventional oil until the car breaks in then I'm switching to M1PPYZ synthetic." I've done this myself in the past but I realize I have no idea why. What's fact, fiction and urban legend in all this?

    G37S - Oil...what a PITA Topic

I've read everything, everywhere...the majority written by ignorant (like me) but well meaning Nissan/Infiniti forum users. Studied every BITOG thread about this several times. I'm not going to waste time describing the reason Nissan recommends thier oil. It's covered everyewhere. Unless I learn...

3 Hour Idle - Change oil or not?

Fresh PP in my Accord...a trucker jack knifed and closed Raton Pass. No one moved for three hours, 15F degrees and I had to keep the car warm for my elderly parents. Put 400+- more miles at 75-80 mph. Wondering about fuel dilution and so on. What's best? Keep the oil or change it out?

    Castrol Syntec 5W/20, 4,900, Honda Accord '04 V6

First time using Castrol Syntec 5W/20. No dramatic differences I can see. NAPA GOLD/Wix Oil and Air filters instead of OEMs. FRAM air filter to follow soon. FE, Cr and Cu all improved nicely and on a longer OCI. Maybe just further break-in trend down. (Replaced this Syntec with PP 5W/20 for the...

Warm-up about 30-90 seconds until it falls off high idle and drops to 1,500 rpm. EASY driving first 2-3 miles always. Occasional...

    Honda Factory Fill UOAs

Care to guess what oil mirrors Honda FF? These are some FF UOA's from various Hondas/Acuras. Most from BITOG, All Blackstone Labs. The very first is my new Si UOA I got today. I will post it seperately in the UOA forum. This could have gone on another thread, but it's turned into a cam "debate"...

    '04 Honda Accord V6, M1 5W20

I know very little about oil. I guess my Cu and Fe seem to be steady so whatever is happening, good or bad, is constant, IMO. Hopefully this helps someone else at the very least and I feel I owe it to BITOG members to post my results for all the help, toleration of my stupidity and patience I...

    Honda Factory Fill - BUSTED

LONG incredible story. I keep getting timed out writing this, so here's the bare bones. Some older guy at the dealership I picked up my new Civic Si today said to me out of the blue, "Your really going to like your Si. You got the right color, too." Conversation turns to break in. He tells me...

Second sample. 38% more miles on this interval. 4,000 of the 5,800 miles Highway 75-80 mph, Southwest dry, dusty, hot. New NAPA or a Rebuilt Toyota AC unit?

AC nearing failure according to Toyota service and they said they didn't want to waste my money recharging it. They said replace the copmpressor and clutch, theirs or anything else I care to bring them for my 1990 Toyota 3VZE 4X4. I guess at 205,000 miles I got pretty good service life and they...

Found an old "square" bottle of Castrol Syntec 5W30 SJ on the shelf at a K-Mart tonight! Gave the night manager a dollar for this "obsolete" oil. What a hoot. Made me wonder if anyone "collects" un-openned "old" oils here at BITOG? I've started tonight!
