i have the same engine, i bought mine used and wasn't sure the maintenance record for the truck. I substituted a quart of oil with MMO for 1k easy driving miles. did an oil change, added 1/3 of a can of seafoam on the next oil change, did another 1k miles.
no ticks no issues seems good to me...
Had it in at the frame shop today. Guy looked it over said that is the only rust issue on the frame. Said its safe to drive has me in the books for repair. 300-400.
from crawling underneath, that is the only spot that I could tell had rust. its right under the battery.
I the krown really took all the paint off the frame that they had on it. I have an appointment with a frame shop today at 1300...we'll see what they say...
wish me luck.
Was working on replacing the Cats, on a new to me used truck and saw this.... sad part was it was all painted and looked nice underneath when i bought it...i had it krowned and all the paint came off, and i'm assuming whatever they had covering this whole came off too. How much do you think a...
When ever I purchase a used vehicle, I usually do 2500 miles oil change, at 2000ish miles I add either seafoam or MMO for the last 500ish miles.
USUALLY, the oil is still a gold color when i add the seafoam/mmo. By oil change its black. I do that for 2 changes, then go to 5k changes on...

i drain from plug, let go until drip all but stops.
replace plug
pull filter
replace filter
fill oil
this may be a stupid question but....manual calls for 7 quarts of oil in engine. When I put 7 quarts in, dipstick reads over full. what do we go by, dipstick or manual?
2007 f150 5.4
so on thursday i was driving home from work and my over heat alert came on in the dash. I pulled over and had the car towed to ford. has 8k miles on it. Right before it happened I noticed the AC turned warm on me, wasn't blowing cold air anymore.
Ford took a look, saw that the over heat tripped...

So i let it sit at lunch while i was home and i checked it. it looked to be right in the middle of the 2 dots. Make me nervous since it calls for 6qts and i only put 5.
I'll check over night too...but man...isn't that a big difference
My manual for my 2013 edge 3.5 says 6 quarts. I put 5 quarts in and checked the dipstick(multiple times) and it seems to read over full, but new oil is hard for me to see.
Do I just put the 6 quarts in like the book says? I'm going for yes, but thought i'd ask.
Morning,
Doing my first oil change, what filter should I put on her? I bought a MC, could some one confirm the number I should use? Also, the MC looks small, does size matter(ha ha)? Do bigger filters do better?
Thanks,
Zeus
Anyone have one? Thoughts on oil? Should I leave original oil in and change when monitor says life is low? or drive a little and put fresh oil in ASAP?
I pick the car up wednesday the 2/19, so I don't have it in position yet.
Thanks,
so my 98 f150 is pretty rusty under neath.... is there anything i can do to prevent it from getting worse? is it to late for under carriage spray? do i have to do anything special to it before i apply?
So the book say 5w20
what oils do you guys recommend? only reason i'm asking, is the 2009 honda pilot thread that was started. I don't fully understand what happened...but saw some people saying oil type may help prevent this.
i was told (for what its worth) that the car came with 5w20 semi...
