    Bad News For Rivian

Except states and countries/blocs are literally banning new ICE vehicles. No, you're not forced to buy an EV (note - even hybrids are coming under the ban rule as not being ZEV), you simply have to deal without owning a car if you don't want an EV. "Oh, oh, but you're still allowed to buy a...

    Bad News For Rivian

People keep pointing to this as microeconomics and ignoring what sort of macroeconomic precursor it is. Something about the canary in the coal mine. Simple, you just ride your bike everywhere! /s I'd hazard some of the more "ideas and dreams" countries won't change those regulations...

Wow, Tesla laying off more than 10% of its world wide workforce, two Top Executives leaving

That's a direct result of lobbyists being treated like humans - which they are certainly not - instead of mosquitoes.

Wow, Tesla laying off more than 10% of its world wide workforce, two Top Executives leaving

There's a lot more to it than just that, but those factors are verboten discussion on here. A classic liberal capitalist (i.e. Jefferson & Co.) believes everyone should have a fair chance to succeed in life. A socialist thinks some people should have a fair life at the expense of the success...

Wow, Tesla laying off more than 10% of its world wide workforce, two Top Executives leaving

I don't know - outside of here, I haven't really heard people talking about the Cybertruck a lot, and most of the people I work with are easy $200-400k DC/Dulles metro tech people square in the market segment for Tesla. We had four parked out front today, one with paper plates. The Cybertruck...

    Favorite ATV brand?

At $18-20k, I'd hope so...ouch. Going fast is expensive, but fun, but expensive, but fun.

    The problems with GDI

High octane fuel does nothing unless the compression ratio of the engine requires it. Running high octane in a low compression engine is actually ungood, since the fuel doesn't burn completely (octane being the resistance of fuel to compressive detonation) and leaves deposits behind. DI/TDI...

    Favorite ATV brand?

Mostly mid/central state around Elkins. Never been down to run the Hatfield & McCoy stuff but it sounds fun. A lot of the stuff we ride in is either timber or gas company lease property, but it's pretty country, except for those unexpectedly deep skidder track potholes...

    Favorite ATV brand?

Honda by far; learned how to ride (and where not to go) on a 1984 TRX250, and have a 1995 TRX300FW and a 2017 Rubicon. Dead nuts reliable, easy to wrench on, and they always just start and work. I wouldn't mind Honda joining this century and putting a big twin-cylinder into the new Rubicon...

Redline oil moves operations to Texas & Tennessee

I'd bet more on the very slightly different cultures between San Francisco, CA and TN/TX weighting that decision more. Never really realised Redline was a small company, but only ever really used things other than engine oil from them.

    Doc's Diesel D5335 6.7l Cummins

From what I've seen on some diesel forums, the general consensus is it's just a white box Chinese filter with some branding on it. Since Donaldson and Baldwin aren't very expensive, I don't see the point cheaping out on the oil filter for a $10-15k engine.

    The problems with GDI

A minimum of 100 miles a day (commute), but this is in the 2014 Fusion (2.0L turbo DI). The cinder block of a diesel only sees maybe 5,000 a year, if that.

Wow, Tesla laying off more than 10% of its world wide workforce, two Top Executives leaving

Tesla is just beating everyone to the punch, again. Doing now what everyone else will be doing Q4 2024. Musk the Visionary! To be fair, the US wouldn't have a space program right now without him, although that's a bit off topic.

    The problems with GDI

The 2.0L Ecoboost is actually efficient enough that, going down a hill with no throttle input at interstate speeds, coolant temp will drop at least 20-30 degrees. Highway miles tend to be very easy on it, even in 90-100mph traffic for 30-40 miles on end. That said, half my daily commute is...

    The problems with GDI

240k on mine, 10k OCIs, no catch can, and I don't run top-tier fuel. Weird how I don't have any of the problems that anti-DI proponents constantly crow about. Weird. Idle is dead solid stable, oil analysis comes back great at 10k, doesn't burn oil, 31mpg on long interstate trips. It even has...

Yep. 2004 Grand Cherokee decided that the rods should be outside the block rather than inside. Something something 4.0L legendary durability...eh. Not so much.

Goodyear Assurance ComfortDrive vs Continental PureContact LS

I got ~40,000 miles out of the set of PureContracts I had, 100 miles a day, mostly interstate commute. I honestly wasn't especially impressed with them as a touring tire; dry and wet traction was adequate, snow traction was bad, they wore more quickly than expected, and as they accumulated time...

2025 4Runner reviewed by Doug DeMuro

It's relatively slow, but what is fast and what is slow is relative to each person. 0-60 in 5 seconds starts towards getting quick. 1960s muscle cars weren't fast either, but, again, relative, and it tends to be a hard dividing line.

2025 4Runner reviewed by Doug DeMuro

With the different offroad "modes" CUVs and SUVs come with now so pavement pounders can pretend to be seasoned off-roaders when they see the gravel road to their glamping spot, I'd be surprised if they didn't remap throttle gain across the different modes, or even between 2WD and 4WD. Some...

    brakes sticking after rain?

The rotors weren't warped, it was most likely rust deposits leading to a pulsating pedal that a few hard stops from speed would have fixed. Semi-metallic pads and brake rotors are going to rust when it rains or is humid; the more water available and the longer between uses, the more rusting...
