I just came across this on Impreza forums and thought I would post it here. It looks as if Subaru is implementing a way of showing your loyalty to everyone. I think the badges look cook.

Here's the official site. www.badgeofownership.com

I'll admit, it's a cute idea. Subaru has really been pushing their brand as a lifestyle choice for a while now in almost all their advertising campaigns (brotherhood of Sti, mu Subaru saved my life, etc).

"Your choice of lifestyle icon". How special... I hope there will be one for "overworked, underpaid stiff trying to get to job he hopes is still there".

Sigh... Another reason why I don't like owning a Subaru.

"lifestyle icon".. smirk How about just leaving me alone to own a Subaru without being put into a "class"? Between the "love" puke and garbage like this is enough to make me wish I owned another brand at times.

I'm with you Bill, I absolutely HATE their "love" themed ads and most of their other advertising. It must just be me because their stuff is apparently selling well lately. I do think their vehicles are VERY good though.

I'm suprised Toyta didn't come up with this first - lots more repeat Toyota customers than Subaru.

I agree its a bit 'chintzy', but Bill.....you gotta lighten up a bit! Subaru is trying something new and creative, that is what marketing is about...and you act like it's an attack on you!

That kinda strees ain't worth it these days...it's a badge for crying out loud!!!

I ordered one. The website didn't recognized the vin for my '86 GL but it took the vin for the '93 Loyale no problem! Guess they don't keep records for 24 year old cars...

I have no brand loyalty, so I'd probably just peal it off if the dealer put it on w/out permission. I also absolutely hate the idea of putting any kind of extra decals or advertisements on my car. The world doesn't need to know that I like to bike, the school my kids go to (or their names), my politics, my favorite radio station or even the dealer I bought the car from.

ya know, I'd never put stuff like this on a newer car, but the old models just don't look right without bumper stickers and other junk on the tailgate!

I laughed loud enough to be heard across the office when I saw those. Reminds me of the "My First Sony" stereo for kids.

Where is the badge for "too much spare time"?

I hear ya. I don't take my car to the dealer that much, but anytime I do they always put their stupid plastic license plate frames on my car. I was severely ticked off the first time it happend, now I just laugh because I've gone through like 8 of their plates.

According to Subaru commercials, buying one helps you achieve some sort of moral superiority. I guess this badge is confirmation of how many levels of moral superiority you have achieved.

I guess the lifestyle appeal works for some people, but I find it to be kind of arrogant and stuck up. Believe it or not, it nearly kept my sister and BIL from buying one. They needed an AWD wagon because of kids and where they live. From a mechanical/design standpoint, and dealer location, an Impreza was the best choice. They looked long and hard for a better alternative specifically because they didn't want to be part of the "Subaru lifestyle" (it's a sickness in VT where they live), but decided to give in an get one. I think I'm going to send this to my sister to tease her a little...if it were up to her the car wouldn't have ANY Subaru badges.

I ordered it for my first Subaru, which is my current 06 Legacy. I won't put it on my car as it is a bit tacky and don't like anything on my car.

What was interesting when ordering was when I saw this symbol

With LGBT underneath. Did not know what it meant. Then when I Googled it, I then knew what that symbol was and what it stood for.

Not my cup of tea and I would not be caught dead with one of those on my two Subaru's.

I will say Subaru has incredible brand loyalty for their niche products and a good idea for some of them to maintain it.

I love my 2004 WRX wagon, not only a hoot to drive but incredible reliability.

I have read countless threads on various Subaru forums where the gasket fails at 100k+ miles and some a low as 30k. Many of the owners suffering from this unfortunate mishap have contacted Subaru and in many cases Subaru will pay for half of the repair cost when the car is out of warranty and completely under warranty. I have heard some people that are lucky enough to get Subaru to cover the entire cost and it included a timing belt. They are well aware of the issue. It relates to the use of Open Deck 2.5L naturally aspirated engines. The 2.5L turbo model is a closed deck engine, so it rarely if ever has this same type of problem.

The new 2010 Legacy and Outback naturally aspirated models are using a new Semi-Open deck engine. We'll have to see how that goes.

Cadillac used to have a gold colored badge that the put in the grill of a "loyal owners" car.

I forget what it was, but I think you got an extra star for every cadillac that you bought.

The old guy across the street from my fathers house proudly told me about it on his 90's caddy.

Seems cheesy, but old men like it.

Interestingly enough the EJ20(Subaru WRX) motor is open deck. Head gasket issues are rare.

there should have been a national recall program and subaru should have REPLACED every one of these engines as repairs are futile. mine was repared 3 times! and it was leaking again when i traded it in (at a huge loss) mine had 87 k on the clock

There is a difference between buying a car that claims to be snooty (and possibly buying it for other reasons) and proclaiming you are snooty with a badge of ownership.

Amen to that. Between their love commercials and now this I am quite certain that I will never own a Subaru.

Anyone see the South Park (I didn't, just heard about it) where hybrid cars are found to be producing no smog but copious amounts of "smug"? I think Subarus could be lumped into the "smug emitting" group.

Whatever happened to those little 100,000 mile badges you used to see on Mercedes grilles? Those were pretty cool.

Cadillac started giving away those emblems again. My dad got one with his new CTS and he installed it on the grill, doesn't look too bad. It was his 5th Cadillac so it has a #5 on it. I declined mine with my CTS.

Based my current experience with my '04 Legacy, great car!, my next car will be a Subaru. I'd get a badge for it.

Shouldn't it be a matter of concern for Subaru that ANYONE who is lacking a lap-length white beard has had the opportunity to own a "fourth" Subaru????? I mean, if these cars are so "uber-durable", why would anyone need a fourth example of one?????

If your name didn't start with "paulo...", I'd probably have to act on this one. . .

footnote: for anyone prepared to rage into "I'm offended mode, that was my attempt at "responsive humor". I hope it worked. cheers

There is a difference between buying a car that claims to be snooty (and possibly buying it for other reasons) and proclaiming you are snooty with a badge of ownership.

According to Subaru commercials, buying one helps you achieve some sort of moral superiority. I guess this badge is confirmation of how many levels of moral superiority you have achieved...

Clark

Gee, I thought that group was reserved for only those of us who drive actual gas-electric hybrids???? wink

Of course, the exact same arguement can be made about your "epitome of perfection, gold standard of reliability" brand (or any other brand for that matter), correct? wink

I had to take drastic measures to be sure that as a Subaru owner I wasn't associated with their normal demographic. I figured a Nuke National Park license plate would help:

I really, really wanted the mushroom cloud version when they first announced this plate. They figured it was too politically incorrect. Wussies.

Yes, I was nuked when I was two years old, lost my aunt to cancer, and my grandfather's horse was named Geiger for the radiation burns it had received.

Now, now, let's not jump to conclusions. I was assuming (and I admit, it's an assumption), serial ownership. My cars, of the brand we know you're talking about (which I do NOT offer as examples of perfection) are owned in "parallel" (as in I have one, so do the wife and son). I would not claim a "fourth" car badge under those circumstances, but maybe I'm being unreasonably narrow in my interpretation of that. I've got no problem if others see it differently.

And your name is "Ed" to boot. . . That's just utterly and totally priceless. My radiation-proof hat is off to you, sir!!! wink NO Subaru owner on the planet will EVER top that one. cheers

Interesting to see that I'm not the only person who has noticed this! LOL!

I wonder if the big honkin' Mobil 1 sticker on the back of the Expy increases its value? LOL

I was NOT talking about YOU in particular, but more so your fave car company.
I.E.; if they are sooo 'perfectly reliable, faultless, and infallible" (THEIR claims, not necessarily yours, OK?)then WHY do all of these sheeple have to get a new one every 2-3 years instead of keeping such a "perfect" appliance??
THAT was my point/comment on your comment. wink

I've actually noticed this too. Not that there is a problem with it, of course.
