What kind of OCI's do you do on this vehicle.

I've been doing 5k intervals. My last one was 7500 on Castrol Edge 5w30, sending that in for a UOA. Currently running GC for the summer and will be doing 7500 mi as well. The UOA (posted in the UOA section) for 5k intervals with GC was excellent.

Looks very nice, can't say that all 1.8T's are sludgers. You need to give us a high def close up... topless engines are like pr0n around here!

Also makes for a good record if you ever decide to sell the car can show them the pic

Thanks all. It was apart to replace the cam tensioner gasket.

But I must say that engine is likely leading an easy life given approx 30k miles/year. Lots of easy highway?

Good guess! I do about 25-30k/year, mostly highway (80/20)

What are the little "black boxes" over the intake cam?

They're just covers. As to why only one side has them, I'm not sure.
