Hey guys ,
I am using 10w-40 right now in my kawi ninja, the oil is about 800kms old.
the mornings are getting cold where i live but the days are nice and warm, so i still take the bike to work.
I wanted to know if i could use 1/2 litre of 5w-30 in my engine and tranny, to lower the pour point a bit, the oil is penzoil GF-4, which has a very low moly count.
the engine and tranny holds 3.2/litres
I am going to put it away in about 2-3 weeks, so i dont see the purpose for a full change.

I was wondering if such a small ammount of 5w would fry my clutch ?

thanks
nik

Just run it the way it is. The 1/2 ltr of 5W is going to make a difference one way or the other.

I have a ninja as well. I have been using GC 0-30 and have found that it works well for me.

My rationale is that I wanted the OHC mechanicals to get lube quickly at start up and have good lube after warmup. When I start out in the morning I keep the revs down till it warms up.

So far, it has been ok and no problems with clutch. The oil cooler helps a lot.

Just my 2 cents.

I would use a 5w40 or 0w40 year round. It will help get the top end lubed a little quicker than the 10w40.

I rode this morning at 32f. I am using 15w-40 Rotella. When it gets cold in a month, i will use 5w-40 Rotella.
