I have a gallon jug of 5w20 in my stash that is mobile super conventional that I can use with just the MOS2 for the next fill.
thank you
Now, that would be interesting. I'm also here to learn and providing real-world experiences is a great contribution to the BITOG site! +1 to you.
PS: I like your combination to be clear, it's just specifically in the MPG area the MOS is closer to a straight 30 if I recall.
Considering that you are using a HM oil spiked with an oil thickener; (albeit a solid additive boost its goal is helping with oil consumption by increasing overall sump viscosity + seal conditioners), it won't have as good MPG numbers side by side to say the conventional spiked with MoS2 on it's own. However, the MoS2 might be doing something for improving this particular OCI mixture had it not been added. Plus, the colder weather, etc. In terms of purely MPG you'd probably technically have best numbers in this weather with a 0w-20 full synthetic.
that is great information on the 2 additives! i appreciate your taking the time to mentor a newb on this subject even though it may have already been discussed before. when i started this personal experiment, i wanted to evaluate the MOS for it's ability to reduce leaks and I saw its effect on that, but I also wanted to see if there would be any mileage gains as i could not find where anyone had actually evaluated it for that.
early on while the weather was a bit warmer here in the midwest, i saw a spike in mpg with the additives, but that has not been the norm since then, so i can at least say that I have done some real world testing albeit subjective and share what i have experienced.
as far as the synthetic oil-ow20: i had contemplated doing a fill with synthetic castrol edge 0w20, as i was going to try a bit lower calcium oil to test a theory on possible interaction between the moly and detergent. But I may have to put off that testing until next winter as it appears our temps may moderate a bit here at least in the short term.
you never know, i may just come home with a gallon of that 0w-20 this weekend!
