Extended oil change with the Donaldson 7405 filter

My 02 F-250 7.3 has really low miles, just under 29K at the moment. MY normal oil change is at 5K miles with Rotella 10-30 T-5.

If I install this Donaldson filter should I keep the 5K oil change interval and change the filter every other change or just run the oil longer than 5K.

This Donaldson filter is a gigantic filter, it will hold about 3 quarts or more of oil.

You are averaging about 2200 miles a year; that's really low. Given that and your 5k mile OCI plan, are you doing the OCIs every other year? You could likely get out to 3 years at 6-7k miles, but you might want to UOA just to make sure nothing is horridly wrong before doing so.

Frankly, the size of the filter probably isn't the controlling factor in this decision; adding a quart to that huge sump isn't really shifting the capacity that much.
