Go with the 205/55R16. BMW used that size for years, so selection is great and prices are low. It's not a one model tire size, so no one is going to discontinue it on you, and any tire shop will have *something* on the shelf. Good luck in East Texas finding a 225/50R16. Plus you can pick your comfort level (speed rating).
