My dad has a 1998 Ford Ranger with the 4.0 l engine. It is approaching 50,000 miles. My question is even with this low mileage should he do an ARX treatment due to the age of the vehicle. I am thinking maybe there may be some oxidation buildup or some type of sludge that may have accumulated due to low amount of miles put on this vehicle for this period of time. I know you guts can help so any and all responces would be appreciated.

I'd do it. I think the engine will run better after the cleaning. If the truck has an automatic transmission, I'd also clean the transmission with Auto-Rx, then do a complete fluid flush.

I'm just doing the rinse cycle for a 1996 Olds 3.1 with 49K. I decided the low miles of the prior user were mostly very short trips. You at least know whether your dad is just driving to the store and back where I expect the most benefit.

I was more concerned with the rings and looking for more power rather than sludge.
