This is ref to a 2008 Chrysler sebring w/ 2.7 engine.

I am changing the oil for the first time since I just bought the car.

My owners manual calls for Mopar 04884899AB.
I have used the cross reference and all these filters are the large diameter. I saw them in the store.

The problem is, the car has a small diameter filter. Its still on the car and I haven't pulled it yet.

At another Forum someone told me as long as the gasket had a "seat" and the threads matched, I could use either large or small diameter.
THANKS... trolling

What is the part # of the aftermarket filter you are considering and what brand? You like risking a $4000- engine over a 4 dollar part? Most all filter Co's have cross ref e-catalogue on line.

You also have to go off bypass PSI.

If you can find numbers on your old filter you can plug it into wixfilters.com s competitor part number interchange and get all its specs. Then see what wix recommends.

Probably a quick lube cheapie filter on there. The 6607 thimble often gets recommended to replace bigger ones on Hyundais and other asian 4 cyls.

There's more to a filter than just matching threads and can dimensions, e.g. by-pass pressures, flow rates, filtration efficiencies, etc.

It would be in your best interest & cheap engine insurance to assure that you select a filter meeting the manufacturer's specs for your vehicle application.

I am going to change oil and put in Mobil 1 5w-20.

All of these interchange physically with the MOPAR 04884899AB filter

Motorcraft FL-820S
Purolator PureOne PL24651
Donaldson P550965
Denso 150-1014
Amsoil Ea011
Fleetguard LF16002
Wix 51372
Mobil 1 M1-210
K&N HP-2010
Purolator Premium Plus L24651
Fleetguard LF3681
Hastings LF110
Pro-Tec 159
ProLine PPL-24651
C.G.Enterprises Viper 2
Advance Auto AA2
Fram TG2
Fram PH2
Wal*Mart ST2
STP S2
ACDelco Duraguard PF1250

Of these that I could find in the store, all are
LARGE DIAMETER FILTERS.

I don't want to cut corners on money.
I was thinking either the K&N Filter or Mobil 1 Filter.

It looks like to me, the last person that changed oil put in a SMALL DIAMETER FILTER.

That year/engine lists two different filters.

The PH16 family PH3600/PH3614/PH16/PH43/PH8A has been around a long time.
3/4-16 thread. Room permitting, they are interchangeable.

The PH2 size is fairly common these days; 22mm-1.5mm thread.
Pretty much stuck with that size.
Couldn't find an oversize.

The gasket as well at the thread need to match. In a few cases, the relief valve pressure also should be at least close.

Well... I pulled the filter. Definitively is the small diameter filter. 3" dia x 3 3/4" tall.

It is a Performax PO-173
(Sopus Products, Houston, TX)
Made in USA

Never heard of that brand. Anybody heard of it?
Must be from one of the oil change outfits. Any idea which one?

Would a Chrysler Dealer use this brand?
The car only has 14000 miles and was supposedly serviced at the local Chrysler Dealer.
I could stop by the Dealership and ask.

so.... what do I do now?
Do you think any damage was done by having the wrong filter on the car?

I went to that wixfilters.com site.
It equivalent to Wix 57502
and has the 22 x 1.5 MM threads.

Since I am new to this site, what filters do you guys recommend?
I don't mind spending 10 bucks or more on a filter.

A WIX 57502 crosses over to Motorcraft FL-500S which is spec for my 2010 Fusion 3.0. Both are GREAT filters at less than $6.00.

I purchased the Mopar MO-899 at Walmart as suggested and yup... it was only $5.44.

I am sure this is the stock filter since it had the numbers 04884899AB on the side of it, which matched my owners manual.

I was also surprised to see stamped on the face of the plate that screws up to the engine was 22mm.
Do all the new filters have the thread size stamped like this one?

This filter, the length is short.
Anyway to find a equivalent filter that would be long?
Thanks to everyone.

If the FL820S filter is a cross reference to your filter then you can a great filter with a silicone anti drain back valve for around $3.67 at WalMart. This filter is a great bargain!

Whimsey

Yea.. I saw that Ford Filter at Walmart.
Would be interesting if some cut open the Mopar MO-899
and the Ford FL-8205 and compared the difference.

Has anybody done it?
