These engines are having problems with the high pressure fuel pump cam follower wearing prematurely. The follower is similar to a lifter on a flat tappet cam engine. I believe that an oil with a higher zddp level may help. VW calls for VW 502.00 oil, but does anyone have any better ideas. Where can I go to find the zddp levels in different oils, I have looked at several manufacturers websites and have found nothing?

I talk to terry, and asked him about this issue, but mainly in terms of the RLI 5w40 that i am using and asked if a zddp would help and he said that the RLI needs no more as it has that covered. I would say maybe a good oil + some slob or some zddp additive.

VW tends to use thinner mileage oils that are very emission friendly, low in ZDDP -many TDI's having high wear switched to API CI4+ and now CJ4 and the wear has decreased.

I think the RL oil will give very good results - don't add to it till you have some results - the oil is very high in additives

I will be posting a 5k uoa for S9000 soon, and I expect very low wear rates.
