I wonder what raw material they were having trouble sourcing in a trans fluid??

I think it was a supplier issue more so than an individual component. I posted a response from ZF in another thread that Lifeguard 8 and Lifeguard 8 ATF are exactly the same fluid with only a name change due to the supplier change.
