What do you all keep in your car on a regular basis? A spare quart of oil? Tools? Where do you keep it?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Since I asked the question, I'll go first:

Driver's Side Map Pockets:
- Maps of Arizona and California. (I live in AZ and travel to CA frequently.)
- Napkins. (Usually spares from fast-food places I encounter on my travels.)
- A few printed copies of the form from here.

Center Console
- GPS navigation unit.
- Knife.
- Pens, pencils, and a few pieces of paper.
- A small notebook.
- FM transmitter for my iPod.

Glove Compartment
- Insurance and registration paperwork.
- Accident reporting paperwork (e.g. forms to fill out, places to draw diagrams of accident scenes, etc.)
- 2xAA LED Maglite and spare batteries. (Batteries are kept separate so they don't corrode inside the light.)

Trunk (spare tire well)
- Spare tire.
- Jumper cables.
- Three road flares.
- Toyota-supplied scissor jack. (Fits perfectly into it's little well.)
- Toyota-supplied hand crank for jack.
- Toyota-supplied wheel nut wrench.

Trunk
- Usually a one-quart bottle of whatever oil's in the car at the moment, but presently a 5-quart bottle of Mobil 1 with one quart left (I used the other 4 quarts at the last oil change).
- "The Club", though it's occasionally stored in the passenger compartment.

Now it's your turn.

I used to keep enough things in my cars to replace a headgasket and change a transmission. Also had a gallon of demineralized water, a power inverter, tire inflator, flashlight, WD-40, rope, jumper cables, hose clamps, some 3/8 and 5/8" hose, JB weld, 2qts motor oil, 1qt trans fluid.

I never ended up needing to use any of that stuff, even with very old, purportedly unreliable cars.

Now? Nothing. Just the factory spare and tools which consist of two dual-head wrenches (10, 12, 14, 17mm), and the factory first aid kit which is actually very comprehensive.

Dash:
Sirius Receiver
Several years out of date GPS.

Glove Box:
Owners Manual
Stack of papers with all Generic OBDII codes plus Ford P1xxx codes.
-I actually keep insurance and registration in the visor, I dont like to fetch things from the glove compartment if I get pulled over.

Trunk:
I have a 12qt. box sitting on the shelf above the fuel tank. It has Jumper Cables, oil, transmission fluid along with anything else I might find useful. Extra screwdrivers, adjustable wrenches, etc. I also have the usual spare, jack, wrench.
Something I just found was one of those orange reflective vests with yellow reflective stripes. The zipper is broken, but I put it in there any way for the one time I might have to use it.

1 roll of Duct tape, several 18" nylon tie straps, 1 axe, 1 spade shovel, postage stamps. 8-track tape of Frank Yankovic "greatest hits"

pair of kevlar mechanics gloves, 3 cell maglight, pistol when I travel, a KABAR knife, a Klien multi screwdriver, breaker bar with lug nut socket, small porable air pump, california map, backup batteries AA and 3 large batteries for my maglight, a baseball bat for protection, 3 pens, 1 sharpie, paper, I got my tools in the back, 1 quart of extra oil, sealed bag of beef jerkie, and a US army wool blanket, US army entrenching tool.

I keep nothing of value in my Pajero,it has no real value itself either.I think I have a jack,never used it.Have a 4x4 tow strop and a couple of big d shackles.First aid kit,tarp,fire extinguisher,,umbrella,baseball bat....and that's about it.

What I keep in the car. As little as possible. Some random junk in the glovebox, jumper cables and coolant in the trunk.

IMO, No need for a whole survival kit, working on a car on the side of the road is asking to get hit by someone drunk or texting. There aren't many places left in the US than don't get cell phone reception, help is a phone call away.

I hate cars stuffed with junk.

Mcguyver of the year award right there!

In my truck I keep:

-Napkins(left over fast food)
-LED 3D Maglite(anti-hijack/land an airplane light)
-Toolbox
-Knives
-Navi

Toolbox has been out of the truck for a a few weeks now, just trying to stop carrying extra stuff I don't need as I worked out most of the kinks with her. Anyone want to buy an Xterra for 12.6k? :)

And other random stuff.

Sticking only to the work car (the Malibu):

Easy to reach/out in the open:
-- Map pockets have a supply of napkins from fast-food places
-- Box of Kleenex
-- Box/container of Handy-wipes
-- ratty glove to hold gas nozzle in cold weather
-- de-icer spray and scraper/brush
-- fuel fill-up log
-- sheet music
-- garbage bag

Glove box and center console:
-- CD's
-- extra plastic bag for garbage detail
-- Kelly 6-1/2AL small shank trombone mouthpiece
-- did I already say CD's?

Trunk:
-- rain poncho
-- small Craftsman socket wrench set
-- jumper cables
-- if it's Monday, yoga mat and work-out clothes.
-- roll of paper towels
-- fold-up chair

ice scraper, $3 in coins, and a crescent wrench. Always nice to have a tool for resetting battery cables even if you think they're good. Besides you could look like superman to coworkers if their battery has issues.
