Transmission Pan Magnet Location

I'm putting a new transmission pan on my Impala. The new pan has a drain plug where the magnet used to be. The magnet fits over the plug. Can I just place the magnet there as seen in the attached picture.

Yep. It looks like it fits like a donut. You can get some neodymium rare earth magnets and place them around the pan to catch more gunk.

If your transmission has solenoids, I would place the magnet away from those.

No, he has a drain plug on the new pan anyway.
