Live in S. Florida and have an '01 Toyota Rav 4. It's 36 months with 20k miles, most 7 miles back and forth to work in City driving. It still has the factory installed coolant and I'd like to test it to see if it needs changing rather than just changing per the calendar (to help reduce pollution). The freeze point is -45 and the coolant looks clean and fresh.

I see some test strips but they are not for Extended Life Coolants. Because mine is red, is it extended life?

Is there a test and where can I get it?

Also, what's the story with these coolant "rejuvinators"? Should I add one every year?

I'm new to the board and love it. Thanks 4 your help. Bill R

i don't think that toyota's red coolant is extended life, i think it is regular.

btw this is in the wrong forum. this forum is for machining coolants, the types used in lathes and mills, not autos.

i just happend to see a jug of toyota red coolant today and you are right, it is long life.

The rejuvenators (normally called SCA's) are for conventional coolants. Don't mix them in Extended life formulations.
