starting fluid doesn't work, is spark the problem?

well, the timing belt is intact and ok; actually, it looks to be recently replaced.
the car IS running now. figures, after I had it towed 65miles to my Dad's, he gets in and it starts right up...it doesn't idle smooth though.
I'm going to look at the throttle body next, because the last mechanic must have thought something was wrong when he installed a throttle position sensor.
so good news, I don't have to change the timing belt. bad news is, IDK what else kept it from starting. I don't have enough confidence in the car yet to start using it.

cap, rotor, plugs, wires are new.

I mean, the other possibilities would be fuel related or perhaps a sensor?

good possibity, since these cars are known to have coil and ignitor related issues, but IDK if it's an all or nothing problem, like it works sometimes and not other times.
