Thanks for that link.

It was like Alice in Wonderland.

At pp. 193-194 there is this " The Commission has found that ... For gun violence in particular, mental illness contributes greatly to rates of suicide but marginally to homicide rates." (my emphasis added)

Yet, the lengthy list of firearm recomendations seemed to completely miss this point. The list of firearm and ammunition reccomendations, which is more accurately phrased as restrictions, was like reading a Bloomberg wish list. They just hate guns.

I confess that, at 277 pages, the constraints on my time required that I skim the document - nevertheless, it seemed that in every instance where a choice among "rights" might be required to be made, the enumerated second amendement rigbht would have to be the yielding right in every instance. If there is a contrary example, I would welcome someone directing my attention to it. Again, my conclusion is, they just hate guns.

This should be required reading. It is a real insight into the minds of people who just want to control other people, and have no interest in letting facts get in the way of that process.

As bad as it was for law abiding Connecticut gun owners, it obviously could have been a lot worse.

I didn't go through this entire thread, but I've already, in my daily chit chat with various people, and of course, online, have come to find out that the mental illness brigade (aka conspiracy truthers)are out in full force with this shooting incident. Are people that stupid and egotistical to trash the victims of a this tragedy and claim it's all a conspiracy???

Win - it was an interesting read...they identify a set of problems...and then, instead of adressing those problems, they decide the best thing to do is go after guns owned legally by Connecticut residents...

Not surprising, given their backgrounds...all academics, lawyers, and shrinks...who have no LE experience...save for the one politician who was a police commissioner and one former sheriff...

A triumph of emotion, disguised as analysis and thought...

Astro14, nothing serious will be proposed and nothing serious will be done.

Guns are not the issue, I agree with that. It is the social environment and the people themselves. Look at New Hampshire. Pretty liberal gun regulations but you do not see a lot of stories about shootings and killings. Or Iceland, or Switzerland. It's the social environment (call it socialism or whatever you want but an environment where the people are not seen as vermin but as valuable beings).

But we are not going to address that -- we will continue to tighten the bolts on education, financial safety net, rehabilitation and counseling services, etc. It keeps getting worse and worse.
