My truck does a lot of short trips, 5 miles to work and 5 miles back. It's taken on a good run from time to time but not as much as I would like. My wife's car is our driver on the weekend and she commutes 25 highway miles to and from her job, so the miles get put on her car. My truck is 7 years old and has 35,000 miles on it.
I decided long ago to just run a good synthetic to handle the affects of short trips and change it out in November and May. Basically, I do an oil change to run through winter and then again to run through summer.

Oil had 8,584 miles on it. The OLM showed 12% left. I usually change around 7,500 but was late this time.

Out: Mobil 1 EP 0W-20 - 1,846 miles.
In: Mobil 1 EP 0W-20.

Note: oil change only, no filter replacement. 3.4 quarts.

I re-flashed the vehicle with the latest PGM-FI and CVT calibrations. The service procedure calls for resetting the Maintenance Minder to 100% and replacing the engine oil only - so that is what I did.

Technically it is a product-update, not a recall. But CA is not on the list of states that will be receiving the product-update.

I own the hardware needed to perform the reflash, so I just did it myself. I will make a post about it this week.

Walmart seems to have Mobil 1 on Rollback almost daily. But Pennzoil has had some good deals lately.

I see what you did there.

Question. How vital do you consider the value priced M1 EP,,with its high PAO content, to the success of your maintenance plan ?

I am wondering if, say, econo Milesyn 0w20 in the 5 gallon tub or econo Super Tech Synthetic 0W20 in the 5 quart jug would produce ok results.

How big of a role does base stock play vs fuel dilution problems (and LSPI) ?

TY.
