A funny anecdote: two friends of mine (brothers, one is a professional mechanic and the other works at Jiffy Lube) both claim that Pennzoil Ultra is junk. They claim it has wax in it, and causes sludge build-up. They don't really provide any evidence, just claim that's what they know.
I personally just started using (over the last month and a half) PZ Ultra 10w-30 in my '02 AP1 S2000. I used Castrol Edge before. Good oil, but I've read a few UOA's on Ultra in the last year and saw that its really well regarded. It's also very affordable, about $28 for 5 quarts at my local Wal-Mart. I've also considered becoming a preferred customer with Amsoil and getting their stuff @ Wholesale but I'm not sure if it's worth the extra expense when PZ Ultra is so cheap.
I was just wondering if anybody else could give insight on Ultra, maybe offer experience in high-revving applications and how well it holds up? I'll be tracking the car soon so it'll be exposed to constant 6-9k usage for 20-30 minutes at a time several times a day here in Southern California. Just wondering if Pennzoil Ultra is worth using in this application. Note that my AP1's F20C does burn oil depending on how often it's put into high revs. It's normal for the engine.
Also, is there any truth to what my friends claim? I don't believe there is, personally, but if someone could offer some idea as to why people would try to hate on PZ Ultra... [censored] is up with the 'wax' statement?
