NRA's Announcement of Gun Violence in Schools

All this talk about how much it would cost to provide security for schools.

How much school security could have been provided with Obama's $4 million dollar vacation?

Take away HIS security force and redirect those efforts to protecting our children. But nope, the sheeple won't have that....he's too important....lolololol!!!!

What a joke and as many people in here have mentioned, we spend millions protecting other countries that stick it right up our glasses afterwards. Hmmmm....maybe this country is NOT being managed properly. Don't start in about freedom of speech either...say the wrong thing (actually you would be saying the RIGHT thing) and see how quickly the FBI and/or Secret Service pay you a visit. Democracy....NO WAY! This is communism under the guise of democracy.

Back when, Hitler had a huge following and his followers were extremely loyal. However, once Hitler continued with his agenda, even his officers started to turn on him and near the end, Hitler actually feared his own staff more than the allies that were determined to put a stop to him. Obama will suffer the same fate....or so we can hope. Anyone supporting him now need only look at their wallet/purse to see how successful he is....NOT!!!!!

If you voted for this clown, you have absolutely NO right to complain....you got what you deserved and the rest of us suffer. The NRA is not the problem...the government is. And, their agenda does not support protecting children in schools, their agenda is to take advantage of the Sandy Hook tragedy and continue with their gun-grabbing motives.

Obama, Biden, Feinstein (and a wealth of others, including some of the ones in here)....how do you look in your mirrors?? You are a disgrace to the United States of America! Washington, Jefferson, Lincoln and many of our past true fathers would slap you if they were still around....better hope they never come back!

I agree with you that the current powers that be in this country would use the Sandy Hook tragedy for gun control instead of increasing security in the schools. As long as the social elite still can have security in their schools they really don't care what happens in the public schools. The social elite send their children to special elite schools.

It should be obvious to anybody who can think that just taking guns away from law abiding citizens will not stop crime in this country or make the schools more secure. First, a gun is not necessary in a violent attack. A criminal could use a baseball bat or a hammer. And second, if guns for civilians were outlawed in this country illegal guns could be stockpiled somewhere and sold to criminals or illegal guns could even be manufactured somewhere.

The only way to deal with criminals is to catch them and send them to prison. But in this country we have violent child molesters who have repeatedly harmed children who receive parole and go back into the general population. We have violent people from prisons who receive parole all the time. I think a repeat violent child molester should receive a life sentence with no parole.

You think we protect our President because some of us like him?

yes...yes I do. "Some of us" must have liked him and his ideas a lot otherwise he would have never made it in for a second term.

I think he will reveal his REAL agenda before his term is up and it has nothing to do with gun control....apparently, his job is to ruin this country. Why are our borders STILL open? Why can anyone from any other country come here and prosper while American citizens are scraping the bottom of the barrel just to get by? Why do we have children starving every day while we send MILLIONS overseas to "help" other countries that do absolutely NOTHING for us?

As I posted earlier...he has made the bankers rich, the automakers rich, the hospitals are close to getting their hand-out while the citizens that actually run this country pay ridiculous fuel prices, pay more and more taxes every year, and, in general, see their quality of life diminish more and more every year. Yet, he does absolutely NOTHING to help the American citizens that put him in office.....SHAME ON ANYBODY THAT VOTED FOR THIS BOOB!

Me? I'll wait for the rebellion in America....it's coming!

He is doing everything in his power during his lame duck term to make sure the American citizens continue to have a mediocre life without ever having a chance to succeed in the "American Dream". That's the reason he and his cronies are attempting to "revise" the constitution....an armed society is a dangerous society to administrations such as this. Why else would Hitler, Stalin and many others disarm the masses before they reveal their agenda? Obama is no differen!t!

Mental Health America Calls for National Action in Response to Newtown Tragedy

ALEXANDRIA, Va., Jan. 7, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Urges Leaders to Identify, Implement Solutions That Expand Capacity, Capabilities of Mental Health Programs and Services

Mental Health America today called on President Obama and Congress to take action in response to the Newtown tragedy by identifying and implementing solutions that expand the capacity and capabilities of the nation's mental health programs and services.

In letters to the President and Members of Congress, the organization said it stands ready to work with policymakers and recommends that the Workgroup headed by Vice President Joe Biden consult with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), mental health and addictions experts, and those with "lived" experience in this discussion.

To begin a sustained recovery, Mental Health America (MHA) recommends Federal support and assistance to:

-- Restore the $4.6 billion for community mental health and addiction services: Funding for community mental health and substance use services has been cut by $4.6 billion since 2009 by states attempting to cope with the recession. Due to diminishing capacity, only a third of those with moderate mental illness, two-thirds of those with severe illness, and only one in a hundred of those with a substance use disorder ever receive appropriate services. When care is provided, there is a gap of eight to ten years between first symptoms and first treatment.

-- Order the full implementation of the Affordable Care Act and the Mental Health Parity Law: This will improve access to care while making it more affordable. Mental health and substance abuse services must be fully integrated with quality medical care. In order to meet the potential expanding service demand that comes with enhanced benefits, coverage, and awareness, there must be support to maintain and grow the professional and peer support workforce.

-- Create a public education, training, and screening campaign on mental illness and addictions and emphasize the value of treatment: Few young people receive a single hour of education about mental illnesses or addictions, its signs or treatment. Adding Mental Health First Aid, Emotional CPR to trainings for students, parents, teachers, employers, and community groups will help us all become more proficient in recognizing issues and supporting each other to get help. We must teach people that recovery from mental illnesses or addictions is possible. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends routine mental health checkups for all adolescents and the Society of Adolescent Medicine supports early identification of mental illness as a critical standard of care.

-- Enact the Mental Health in Schools Act (HR 750 in 112th Congress): Research has demonstrated that prevention and early intervention strategies strengthen children's and families' mental health and resiliency, prevent or lessen the burden of illness, and help with the recovery from trauma. Further, teachers must be prepared to partner with parents and other caregivers on how to identify emotionally disturbed children early and to guide them into appropriate assessment, intervention, and support services. Enacting the Mental Health in Schools Act is a step in the right direction and should be followed by appropriate legislation for intervening with children from zero to five years of age.

"We commend President Obama for creating a Workgroup to tackle this issue," the letters state. "We urge a focus beyond gun accessibility and advocate for the presence of the mental health and recovery community in this discussion. MHA stands ready to work with President Obama and with the Congress and recommends that the Workgroup consult SAMHSA, mental health and addictions experts, and those with 'lived' experience in this discussion. Further cuts to mental health and addiction must be avoided in any fiscal or long-term budget negotiations in early 2013.

"The Newtown Tragedy and the overall gun violence in our society, call all of us to work as one to create lasting solutions that include mental wellness. As an organization that has been working for over a century to make individuals and communities healthier, we call on you to take immediate action with us. "Our Nation deserves nothing less."
