With all the medical and health issues, that quite a few Bitogians have, how about a new forum? One that all of the armchair doctors/shade tree mechanics, can discuss their health problems, as well as diagnosing these problems. What do you think? It seems there are many health related posts, as there are oil filter ones.........

Strange. But I think you on to something there Captain

Well General and Off topic IS about anything else that isn't "oil and filters", so I don't think a new forum is necessary.

Anyway, it would just attract bitter, mean spirited individuals...the type who would kick kids' sand castles over at the beach.

But there are quite a few more topics other than oil and filters. And seeing how popular health questions are becoming, wouldn't it make sense to have its own category??

And how, and why, would it attract bitter and mean individuals? Please explain.

Isn't that a bit of a liability issue? Someone takes health advice from a motor oil forum, is injured and sues. Sounds crazy but well within the realm of possibility! Lots of shrewd lawyers out there.

Turns an ageless forum to definite aged one with dudes with health ailments. My 72 year old dad loves to talk about his ailments....

How about a transgender forum? How many of you guys feel trapped in the wrong body and wish you
could put on some pink ballet slippers and dance around the house but are afraid of getting caught?

A trend in medical threads now doesn't mean that there will be enough continued interest to warrant a new section.

If one person posts on a topic that is off-topic, it sometimes leads to others starting similar threads. Maybe that's all it is with the medical threads.

OK, I'll start the ball rolling with one of my favorite subjects;

The bio-chemistry of post-exercise ketosis and it's link to "runner's heart attack" in elite athletes.

Yeah, many medical threads over the years.

A few doctors on BITOG. Ultimately the person needs to see their doctor for best advice, treatment, cure....etc..

I'll throw that idea into the dumpster. You can thank me later.

My wife followed a couple newborn forums when my kids were wee.

They invariably devolved into vaccines vs anti-vaccines, with "camps" who wouldn't listen to other "camps".

I imagine most posters here are older and would instead complain about their old guy problems, but it sure could devolve and get ugly.

OTOH look in the ads in the back pages of Hot Rod magazine. They know readers of their rag need Viagra, for sure.

Its one thing to give bad advice about oil but bbad advice about one's health is dangerous. [/quote

x 1,000.
it's funny how many people volunteer others to do more work. the mods only have 55k. to babysit, so give them another headache.
the only thing more goofy than giving medical advice on a site such as this, is asking for it.
there are plenty of sites designed for this purpose. why some ask for this on bitog is laughable.
at any rate, have a good day.

Since you asked, I believe that is the normal place to hear them.

Hope that helps.

As long as you always say "But consult your doctor first before taking any medications or starting any kind of health program." You can spout off any well-intentioned advice you want! It puts the onus on the user, e-z.
