I too find this is the best way but doing the combo of a spray/soak with teh wheel cleaner first, then washing helps make it quicker is about it.I conducted my own experiment last summer using 4 of the top wheel cleaners (I think the Meguiar's was one of them), and I determined that washing them by hand just using my normal car wash solution did a better job, so that how I clean mine...
I didn't think using a specific wheel cleaner added enough of a benefit to make it worth the cost...none of them will get the wheels clean without also scrubbing them by hand...I too find this is the best way but doing the combo of a spray/soak with teh wheel cleaner first, then washing helps make it quicker is about it.
Sometimes they work "good enough" when you want a quick rinse off.I didn't think using a specific wheel cleaner added enough of a benefit to make it worth the cost...none of them will get the wheels clean without also scrubbing them by hand...
I don't work that way. If I'm detailing, I'm doing it right. Then again, I'm retired, so I've got the time...Sometimes they work "good enough" when you want a quick rinse off.
Try cleaning these with only car wash soap.I conducted my own experiment last summer using 4 of the top wheel cleaners (I think the Meguiar's was one of them), and I determined that washing them by hand just using my normal car wash solution did a better job, so that's how I clean mine...
Isn't acid hard on the clear coat? I would never allow my wheels get that bad...Try cleaning these with only car wash soap.

30 seconds per wheel using acid wheel cleaner. Only required a very light brush agitation - car wash soap would have taken a lot longer.
It's not acid as I understand it - clear coat safe. Just need to verify the product.Isn't acid hard on the clear coat? I would never allow my wheels get that bad...
Not if it is used properly.Isn't acid hard on the clear coat? I would never allow my wheels get that bad...
The product that I used was acid, but the product used by the OP is not. It's not acid as I understand it - clear coat safe. Just need to verify the product.
+1 I use a paint brush to agitate the cleaner and soften up the deposits which works well too. When using that, you really should use a Scotchbrite pad to clean out the nooks and crannies before the crusty buildup gets too thick.

Not true. The dust is lighter color but still very visible. After ceramic pads, I will not need to use the wheel cleaner anymore
My experience as well. Not true. The dust is lighter color but still very visible.
Likely depends on the ceramics as I have been running Akebono ProACTs for yrs now and have yet to see/feel any residue on the wheels or tires. Possibly 180+ mph runs help dissipate it at times, but I never feel the need to wash them unless doing the entire vehicle. Not true. The dust is lighter color but still very visible.
Well yeah, but hardly any accumulates. I look at mine and they’re dirty. Not true. The dust is lighter color but still very visible.
When you can buy a full gallon of D143 for $20, that is expensive.$10 ea at Walmart. Contains no acid per the bottle. Love this stuff.View attachment 155828
30 seconds per wheel? It takes me minutes to clean my wheels and they only have a weeks worth of road grime on them.Try cleaning these with only car wash soap.
