When you mix different oils, cold crank properties can be one of the more unpredictable factors.

I usually buy 5 litre jugs of oil, and since most of my cars only need 4 litres, I have lots of left-over oil. I'm planning on mixing the following for my 99 Elantra's winter oil:

1 litre Motomaster Full Synth 5w30 (Shell PAO)
1.5 litres Motomaster Full Synth 10w30(Shell PAO)
1.5 litres Castrol GTX 10w30

So, we're looking at a synth/dino mix of about 60-40. And a 10W30/5W30 mix of about 75-25. Oil will be in for 6000kms (3750mi). Climate region: Southwestern Ontario.

Anybody foresee any problems?

Could be a bit on the thick side for real sub zero winter starts -- Ok for the fall and early winter -- If your OCI will allow for a change to a good "0W-xx" for the mid winter months - go for it. Otherwise, keep the brew until next spring.

I just changed the oil in my 04 Altima 2.5 S.

5 oz. VSOT
1 qt. Castrol 5W20 GTX(SL)dino
1 qt./27 oz. Havoline 10W30(SL)dino
2 qts. Pennzoil 10W30(SL)dino
Total of 5 qts.
Purlator Prem Plus oil filter #24458(oversize)

I've been mixing different brands/grades of oils for 30 years. Never a problem!

I usually run 10w30 in the spring/summer and 5w30 in the fall/winter. Last year I ran GC 0w30 in the fall/winter, but I don't love this car that much to pay the extra for that oil.

Hyundai now recommends 5w20 for its 2005 models. Wonder if that would be an acceptable winter oil for my 99?

Are you sure about these statements? From what I've heard Motomaster Full Synth is all group lll. Maybe Johnny knows
