Ive been thinking about the whole idea of high mileage oils and their claim about conditioning seals. If someone has been using high mileage oils for a long time, could there be over conditioning of their seals in turn making them weak. Just like if you condition leather boots too much, they will become too soft.

Are high mileage oils going to start softening the seals too much over time?

Does this make any sense?

Thx

I began using Valvoline MaxLife in my Volvo 240 when it first came out(about 8yrs ago). Here's something to consider...older SOHC Volvo engines are notorious for going though engine seals(especially when the PCV system is neglected). I'm currently @ 225k miles and all of the major seals(fr.crank, cam, int. shaft, and rear main) are still the originals and are completely dry. Now, please excuse me as I search for some wood to knock on.
