Who wudda thunk it?

My 4-stroke quad has alot of hours on it and was using synthetic 10w-40 at about a qt in 100 miles.

I tried switching to 20w-50 Mobil-1 and Amsoil 20w-50 motorcycle oil which slowed the consumption to about 3/4 qt in 100 miles.

I get fed up with dumping expensive oil in the thing daily so the last time it was low I drained it and put El Cheapo Napa 20w-50(valvoline) in it.

I'll be darned if It almost completly quit using oil! Ive put over 450 miles on the thing in 2 weeks and have only added 1/2 qt!

It doesn't foul the plug and has good compression. I'm thinking the valve guides or seals are bad on the exhaust valves.

Why would Dino oil cause this?

Actually, I've heard that same thing before. I'm not positive, but I think it's because the dino oil conditions the seals better than synthetics. I'm sure someone can better explain it... otherwise, if you search the forums, I think you'll find other threads that have the answer you're looking for.
