The car is what it is. That said other engines have been transplanted into them. The Northstar V8, Lotus turbo, and the Toyota 2JZ-GTE for example.

As I said the only thing that turns me off about owning the car is the nonsense sometimes heard from the public. The Delorean community is also tough to swallow at times. Many insecure nerds and 20-somethings who bought the car for the attention it brings and think it's the end all be all of automotive design when in fact it's a relatively poorly designed and built vehicle. Most also worship JZD refusing to believe he could do any wrong when in fact he was arrogant, manipulative, and as shady a businessman as they come. Talk about fan boys. I avoid them whenever possible.

You know that Nissan uses Renault engines, right?

I'm not so sure that is the case with their gasoline engines, perhaps diesels? When you look at the list of Nissan engines currently in production, several of them were introduced prior to the alliance in 1999. I dont think one can make that blanket statement.

After reading this, maybe Renault does build their engines;

The QR25DE sold in the United States has been subject to a significant number of problems in its short lifetime. A variety of mechanical flaws have led to numerous technical service bulletins, recalls, repairs, and outright engine replacements.

Vehicles with the QR25DE may ingest material from a damaged pre-catalyst resulting in increased oil consumption.[7]
Power valve screws in the intake manifold may become loose and result in unstable idling or power loss.[8]
In June 2006, it came to Nissan's attention that approximately 85,000 Altimas and 2,000 Sentra SE-Rs equipped with the QR25DE and built between January and May 2006 may experience unusually high oil consumption. This can lead to premature engine failure and possibly a fire. While Nissan investigates the problem, owners of the affected vehicles are being advised to check their oil frequently (every 700 mi (1,100 km) [1127 km]), and dealers have been instructed to place the affected vehicles on sales hold.

In all fairness I'm sure renault engines are better now than when the last time they were solde here in the states.

Yeah I'd love to own one. If I had the extra $$$ I'd buy one. The Automotive Museum in San Diego had one. That and a Tucker (No. 19) Maybe once all the kids are gone! :)

I believe there were business relations/foundations between the companies is why, IIRC.

The irony there is nearly overwhelming: can't get a front left fender or the torsion rod so you can open the driver's door, but you can order a flux capacitor from O'reilly's.

wow!
