Have a 2005 Volvo Penta 5.0 OSI-E engine. Oil reads 1 quart higher on the dipstick if cold then if run to operating temp, wait 5 minutes, and then check. Mechanic says value when hot is correct...is the remote oil filter possible draining overnight somehow...I can't seem to account for such a big disparity. Any thoughts?

I have remote oil filters on my Merc GM 7.4L Horizon V8 engines in my SeaRay. The oil fill is 7 quarts due to the remote filters which sit on the top/front of the engines. The hoses alone hold about 3/4 quart and when cold show high on the dipstick. When hot right after shutdown they show full. This has been true on the last 3 boats all with the same set up.

Consult your owners manual for correct fill quantity and do a hot & cold check for your answer.
