No, cast iron bore. I over thunk myself here...I'm really happy with the Delvac for bikes, but thought I might try something closer to the 30 weight recommended, and straight after found another online manual that recommended SAE40, so back to Delvac as being good.

Back from my exploritory trip, and found some SAE30 oils, mainly in the lawnmower section of several shops - they'd all be ok I reckon. More reshearch has me finding our only local oil blender doing a range of monogrades, some for lawnmowers, and some for diesel engines and transmissions. Harder for me to get hold of, but I think that's the way I'll go.

Aegis oil super tractor 15W30 could be the best SAE40 engine oil if the HHS is >3.7, and it meets GL-4 and parts of GL-5.

When the rules don't work, change the rules.... 30/40, nobody said SAE.

Yeah, his father was a local racer, after crashing so many cars he came back and took over the oil business. We used to stock the oil where i worked last, and he used to come in sometimes. I've talked to the blender about the high ZDDP 20W-50 I used in my Airhead, not something you get to do these days.

What is the difference between the two diesel mono's, the series 3 seems to do more gearboxes.

You are right, as always, SCA has a Penrite Small Engine 10W-30 Semi-Synthetic (API SL) in the lawnmower section, something I have never noticed before.

It's right next to the two SAE 30 mineral oils, from Chief and Penrite.

So this Small Engine 10W-30 semi-synthetic, is it a monograde that tests to 10W specs, or is it a Multigrade with VII ?
If anybody happens to know.

Tempting as it was, the full synthetic Magnatec 5W-30 (SN, A3/B4) was 35% off, and better buying.

They had Penrite SAE 30 and 20W-50 in our SCA today, in the mower section, with Castrol, that was it. Mitre 10 had a good range, B&S was the most expensive of course. There was a Masport 4 stroke, said semi synth, no other 30 has that on the bottle...made in Aust, what is it ?

I like it !!

30/40, or for some, 20/30 would be great

Allison transmission fluids TES 439 & 353 have cross-over applications to C-4, TO-2, TO-4 and engine oils.

Oh, nice list. Well done. I see that T3 is available in 5 gallon pails. I could live with that. I don't need 55 gallon drums anymore as our equipment is not all at one barn anymore ...

I believe the yellow metal issue with GL-5 is a thing of the past, modern chemistry ya know.
Look for "ZF", the German ship final drive approval as another guide to engine oil/transmission applications.
An example would be the old school CI-4 Delo 400 15W40.
The right engine oil with the right fuel could result in a visible cross-hatch after 20,000 hours of operation.

Sorry mate, I was talking about Masport Australia, that's how it came up for me when I searched. Where are all the "Proudly made in NZ" stickers, when you try and sell a product in Australia ?
http://www.masport.com.au/

I should have known though, as I could never get my Masport mower to start during an All Blacks match.

Only thing being stolen is Australian tax payer dole money.

You can keep Russell Crowe too.

(Just kidding, I have strong NZ family connections. My mistake on Masport...apologies)

We've sold everything, even our breweries...in for the quick buck. Sucks how Kiwi's are treated there, but we treat you like one of our own, you're welcome to come and bludge anytime.

I know, Aussies have always been made very welcome in NZ, not just Aussies...everybody is made welcome in NZ.

I met a guy living in NZ, retired Merchant Navy, English guy. He could have lived anywhere in the world, but NZ was his choice. I asked him why? And he said NZ was the country that made him most welcome when he was traveling for a living.

What? Russell Crowe lives in NZ now?

Crowe was born in New Zealand, but has lived most of his life in Australia.

There are quite a few people like that.

In WW I and WW II, Australia and New Zealand always fought side by side, and both identify as being ANZAC (from Australia New Zealand Army Corps). A proud history we both share.

Penrite MonoTruck SAE 40
Mineral, API CF / SF

KV 40 = 126
KV 100 = 13.9
VI = 107
Zinc = 1260 ppm
TBN = 6.9
SA = 0.81

http://www.penriteoil.com.au/products.php?id_categ=1&id_viscosity=162&id_products=651

Or CalTex Delo Silver SAE 40, mineral API CF / SJ
KV 40 = 124
KV 100 = 14.4
VI = 115
Zinc = 940 ppm
TBN = 6.7
SA = 1.4
Pour Point = -36 C
Flash Point is >225 C

There is also a Castrol RX Mono and a Shell Rimula Mono, but I don't know much about these last two. When I had a quick look, I couldn't see any API spark (Sx) rating.

The Delo Silver 40 and the Penrite 40 have a big difference in Sulphated Ash, what do you think that means ?
The Delo Silver 30 has a SA of 0.83, similar to the Penrite.
