ATF or PS Fluid for Power Steering?

I've had the Type F in my power steering unit for three weeks now, and it's working great. My steering is as smooth and quiet as ever. The fluid is still bright red, no discoloration or darkening. So far, it would appear I made the right choice. We'll see how it holds up now that the weather is getting colder. Winter will be the big test.

I noticed that using Mercon/Dexron III in my 1988 Ford Mustang's power steering improved it's cold weather performance. But the Type F that was in there was about 14 years old when I changed it. I don't know if using new Type F would have also worked better in the winter.

The 94 tbird has mercon in it from the factory.

I use the cheap supertech mercon in the gallon jug.
