Are "trikes" real motorcycles?

You got something better to talk about? Maybe the weather...?

Yes Zedhed, a bit of ADHD missed the fact that you were looking for a category for these things. I let the subject title influence my comment too much and missed the obvious intent.

About the weather, it is good enough here all year round to ride a bike. ;-)

I like trikes and I like the Spyder, but...

(IMHO) They are not motorcycles.

A motorcycle is a two-wheeled conveyance. A motorcycle's natural state is lying on it's side ie, it requires balance and gyroscopic force or a stand to keep it upright...

A scooter or moped has more in common with a motorcycle than a trike.

I must admit that I don't know how to class a trike.

My point is that legally, they are motorcycles. They are only required to meet the same safety requirements that motorcycles do, and yet they seem to have more in common with automobiles than motorcycles. You always see them at motorcycle events but seldom at car events.

I guess since they are normally made from previous motorcycles, then they must still be motorcycles.
