That's why people on this board cut open oil filters ... to take a look at both new and used filters to get a gauge/comparison between brands. It helps the members make their own decision of how good or bad a filter is. Obviously, some filters don't get very good praise from what is seen, like this particular FRAM.
Unfortunately, 99.9% of people buying oil filters never see the guts (either first hand or photos like here). All they see is the "pretty" outside, and the associated advertising. That's what sells most filters.
